Jolin and Elva are beauties that come in a box?

Jolin Tsai’s latest music video “Honey Trap” has been a hot topic ever since its release. Not only were viewers left in awe by her incredibly flexible joints, but they also noticed there was something similar to ELVA Hsiao’s “Shining Love” video – Both came in a box!

In “Honey Trap”, Jolin played a dancing robot who was delivered to her owner's home in a box. Her owner didn't seem realize that no assembly was required as he flipped though the assembly guide with his sunglasses on. He thought he could control her with a remote control, but the Jolin-bot has a mind of her own and expressed herself (or “Myself” in her case) by “voguing” after he walked away.

After “Honey Trap” premiered, some netizens pointed out that ELVA was also trapped in a box last year in her “Shining Love” video. She wasn’t a dancing robot but rather a doll by the name of “Barble”. In accordance with the lyrics from her song, “I don’t my love to be like a knock-off, breaking down suddenly”, Barble’s man was not “Ken” but “Kan” instead.

Their similarity is probably just a coincidence since the concept has been used many times in the past. As Warner Music explained, the Jolin-in-a-box idea came from their Korean director Che Eun Taek, so it’s unlikely that he has seen ELVA’s video before.

There is no word yet on whether Jolin or ELVA will hit store shelves eventually. In the mean time, let's take a look at other stars that are available for sale in a box:

Will Pan not only successful entertainer, but also shrewd businessman

Taiwanese entertainer Will Pan recently accomplished breaking the million dollar profit mark with his side business, including a shop he runs that is located at the site once home to a previous location of Hong Kong entertainer Edison Chen's clothing line stores. Opening with a single shop of his own, Will has opened up a new shop that has been approved at a Japanese department store, and has also invested in an online business for women's fashion that resulted in raking in profits many times over. Morever, Will Pan will be launching his own brand named "Undisputed" next month.

Will's current store "New Project Center (NPC)" recently celebrated its anniversay, which was originally one of the locations for Edison's clothing line store "Juice". But since the contract for the original store had expired without being renewed, Will and his friends took over the location. Not only will his store will expand to Beijing, but it recently set up shop in Japan's famous Isetan department store for a limited three-month run selling unique products.

Will said about launching his brand in August and scoping out an online TV drama: "I keep on wanting to have my own brand, but I haven't had the time yet. Not until I open my own store." But he will achieve his dream next month, when he will launch his brand "Undisputed". About selling merchandise at his current store, even though the styles are limited, Will personally participates in the designs which show off his creativity and true self.

What is even more staggering is that Will has been quietly operating his online business site "IVIVI" for the past three years with an initial investment of US$90K, but his investment currently has a market value of over tens of millions of dollars. The position of his website is clearly understood, as it is primarily geared towards fashion that women are interested in, comestics, and skin care products. Will replied, "Someday in the future, I will shoot an online TV drama and will collaborate with a different platform. It will have even more of an effect."

Will's side project has not been a resounding success, but it has nevertheless had an amazing run with the creativity good coming completely from things he likes to do. And although Will frequently travels between his three locations in Taipei, Beijing, and Shanghai, Will stated, "My job as an entertainer is still the core of me."

Patina Lin Has No Experience, Kisses Huang Xiao Ming In Hurry

Because Patina Lin didn't know too much about the TV industry, she embarrassed herself during the filming of "Summer's Desire." The director even made fun of her: "Why are you in hurry? Are you this thirsty?"

FTV/GTV's "Summer's Desire" tonight (tomorrow) is going against TTV/SETTV's "P.S. Man" finale. Of course the plot of "Summer's Desire" must be "heavy-flavored." Because of her brother's disease, Da S Barbie Hsu asked Peter Ho to sleep with her. In order to prove her love to Huang Xiao Ming, Patina Lin kissed him forcefully outside a pub.

Before officially filming this kissing scene, the director asked the two to act out the scene and test the position. But Patina threw herself at Huang Xiao Ming immediately and kissed him. In the end, Huang Xiao Ming was confused and the staff were shocked. Patina felt so embarrassed and said: "I didn't know you just need to pretend you've kissed during testing. I feel so embarassed!"

Peter Ho has another "big package"

Peter Ho may be highly successful in the entertainment industry, but does not have the best of luck on the basketball court. After fully recovering from a broken rib on a previous occasion, Peter accepted an invitation to play basketball with his friends yesterday, only to "score" big by busting his left big toe, making it all brusied and bloody. His luck continued as when he went home he managed to trip over a suitcase, splitting open his toenail and reopening the fresh wound. He then received much attention for posting a picture of his injury on his Facebook, captioning the photo "a big package".

Previously when Peter filmed underwear ads his crotch was also famously called "the big package", which also led to his nickname "Big Eagle" by his co-star, Da S. After posting the photo, people wondered whether Peter actually enjoyed the attention he got for his nickname since he had enough sense of humor to caption his picture with the title. In response to concerned fans, his publicist explained that the abnormally large foot in the picture was not due to swelling from his wounds but from the layers of socks he wore, leaving fans to giggle even more that Peter would pretend to have "a big package".

However, even despite his injury Peter made sure to use the opportunity to promote his drama. He joked that because he was "seeing red" from his bloody foot that it was a sign from God that his hit drama "Summer's Desire" would also "become red" (a Chinese expression that means something will become extremely popular), illustrating his immense dedication to being a good producer and actor.

Nan Quan Mama becomes duo, Jay Chou says, "F***ing cool you can still manage!"

Taiwanese band Nan Quan Mama (NQMM) went on the offense as a "completely new group" with their revamped new look and musical style, prompting the band's manager and famed international entertainer Jay Chou to exclaim, "It's very rare to have this kind of band, having transitioned to the next generation from four people to two people. They can still continue to break through the music industry, while also remaining persistent in their own music theory and wanting to keep on producing." Jay continued by saying, "F***ing cool!"

NQMM's new album "Battling Bach" is the latest music diligently put forth from duo Devon and Yutao, which contains elements of the band's most favorite music genres of hip-hop and rock & roll mixed in with classical music. Devon said, "Even though the strength of dividing work between four people was huge, the strength of cohesion with two people was even greater." The two also joked that the biggest change was that they do not need to split the announced costs in so many way!

At their press conference, the group received blessings from good friends in their inner musical circle such as Jacky Wu, Frankie Gao, Nicky Lee, and especially from Jay Chou and Patty Hou. Yuhao's father also took the opportunity to dress up as Bach and having a piano duel with his son for Bach's "Ave Maria". Yuhao also wrote a song that infused "Ave Maria" with hip-hop beats and produced improvised lyrics to the song for the mood of the press conference.

Yun-jing Chang's "love options": boy or girl?

Taiwanese singer Yun-jing Chang has recently released her second album "The Opposite Me", and since filming her "Love's Options" MV with veteran Taiwanese singer Cyndi Wang, both Yun-jing and Cyndi have become good friends. Previously, when a media firestorm hit with news exposing Cyndi as having dated fellow Taiwanese actor and now ex-boyfriend Viter Fan, did Cyndi feel she made an error in judgment on her romantic options? Yun-jing nodded, "I hope that she can find someone to make her happy."

As for Yun-jing's own love options, and if she will choose to date a guy or girl in the future? Yun-jing gave a profound response, "I'm also still researching these 'love options'. And if I'm actually the one deciding, other people would also be choosing you." In the end, Yun-jing quipped, "I would actually only choose work now! One week won't pass in Taiwanese time on Auguest or September, and I won't be able to choose. I can only choose restaurants."

Yun-jing's title track "The Opposite Me" emphases that everyone has a rebellious side, and Yun-jing confessed that when she was an elementary student, she got spanked by her grandmother for bringing over several classmates home to play with without permission. Yun-jing was so upset at your grandmother after that, but nowadays she regrets it, especially now that her grandmother is bed-ridden. Idol drama dialogues: The lamer the better

Summer's Desire

Their pretty faces come and go. Their hair is often regrettable. But their mushy dialogues never go out of style! Ah….the reason why we love idol dramas. Here is a closer look at these unforgettable yet cringe-inducing words of love from UDN.

Mothers always tell their girls not to fall for sweet talk from men. But in the world of idol dramas, when men confess their love, their choice of words are as mushy as one can get.

Hailed as a modern day Chiung Yao-drama (Top-selling romance novelist who penned Princess Pearl), GTV’s Summer’s Desire unleashes endless lines of mushy dialogues with no hesitation. Lead actors Peter Ho and Huang Xiao Ming behave as if they are suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, but it is really all for their love of Barbie Hsu (Da S).

In the drama, Peter Ho said to Da S, “You will only be mine from now on”, “Wear the green lace that I gave you, you can only let your hair down when you are in front of me.” Not to be outdone, Huang Xiao Ming said to her, “Wishing to put you in my pocket and take you away, remember to think of me, don’t turn off your cell phone, don’t leave me not being able to find you!”

The traditional “I love you” would have drawn tears from female protagonists in the past. However, it’s not so simple nowadays, as male characters are expected to show their literacy flair. Like Huang Xiao Ming's character said of Da S, “I know I can’t kiss her like that. She is like poison. Knowing clearly that she is lethal, I still can’t let her go. Even if (I) die, (I) want to die kissing her.”

"Poison"

And that wasn’t all, he looked at her and said, “Missing out on a late night snack is nothing. What's important is that I can’t go on another day without seeing you. (Holding Da S in his arms) Give me 10 seconds! Add 5 more!”

Over at TTV/SETTV, the P.S. Man himself also found it much easier to win his woman's heart with sweet talk rather than his coolness. He said, “I want to open the love that has long been sealed within me. I will use the span of my life, to show her my heart” or “Love is a gift from Satan, after opening it, your life will never be able to recover.”

P. S. Man

Is the audience convinced by these “words from the heart”? A big "Yes" by the looks of the Summer's Desire live chat. Whenever a male lead recites his lines of love, netizens immediately react with messages like “so touching”, “so handsome”. Meanwhile, fans of P.S. Man would always raise the white flag and rally around the couple whenever their guy makes a confession.

Comments like “All girls want to be loved” and “sometimes imagining this secretly” can truly explain the power behind these lovingly melodramatic dialogues. Then again, when a male protagonist directs his confession, not to the female protagonist, but rather to the those watching in front of the TV, it's no wonder why every girl has the right to dream.

Newcomer Bii films MV, misses his mother in Korea

Watch out Harry from Da Mouth, there’s a new Taiwanese/Korean mix in the entertainment industry!

This newcomer, named Bii, released his debut EP on the 7th , has garnered attention from fans for looking like a Show Luo/Daniel Chen/Nicolas Tse mash-up and for daring to have a name similar to Korean superstar Bi Rain.

The 7th was also a significant day for the singer as it was his 21st birthday. His first gift from fans was a large box of condoms, causing him to laugh so hard he tears streamed down his face.

In order to film his new MV for “What can I do”, the director especially traveled to South Korea just to take a life-sized photo of Bii’s mother wearing a traditional Korean hanbok. For the MV, Bii was instructed to sing to his “mother” and “lie” in her arms, causing Bii to cry on set from homesickness.

When asked what he said to his cardboard-cutout mother, Bii shyly replied, “I told my mother her crow’s feet were beginning to show, and that she’s really getting old now, but I still don’t have the ability to carry her burdens for her yet.”

Bii is under Eagle Entertainment and has his own youtube channel. Below is an introduction video(he apparently can speak 4 languages), MV of his first single “Bii my love”, and MV footage from “What can I do”

Ming Dao exposed he has been single for 3 years. He doesn't care Cheryl Yang and her rumored-boyfriend Harry Chang, even when Cheryl's skin was covered up, Ming Dao still peeked at her boobs, seems like he is very thirsty.

Terri Kwan's explosive new album image, complete with sizzling lyrics

Terri only had a towel covering her breasts on the cover of her new album, and wore a 5kg red-lipped hair accessory while balancing a tiny red sandal on her foot. Within ten minutes, she complained of a headache, and said "There's so many challenges in becoming a singer! This is just too much! It's very traumatizing for me!"

Actually, Terri has always loved the red-white sandal, and loves going to the nightmarket, contrary to many people's belief that she refuses to wear anything that isn't a brand name label. She loves to mix and match nightmarket finds with her brand name clothing to create a style entirely her own! In addition to having a sense of fashion, she is a multi-faceted artist and socialite on the outside, and warm and soft on the inside. Terri has always wanted to have a music career, and therefore has taken pains to show that she isn't just a money-loaded socialite a la Paris Hilton. She will depend on herself and work hard to build up a rep worthy of Lady Gaga's approval.

Nicknamed "Rebellious socialite", in late June she passed the tests and challenges set by Golden Typhoon Records, and confirmed that she will be releasing "Unkept Secret" (TN: Not exact) in late July, an album set to challenge the Chinese music industry. Golden Typhoon Records has chosen to release her album in the heat of summer, and with her English name being "Terri Kwan", they have decided to string an acronym "3K Queens" to associate her with their other artists, British singer Kylie Minogue and American Katy Perry. Golden Typhoon Records hopes that with this ultimate card, the three ladies will be able to have an explosive presence in the summer music market, and have also given Terri an unbelievable opportunity with such a prestigious lineup!

Yesterday, Terri worked on her MV from 8 am to 12 am, so Golden Typhoon's workers ordered a specially designed red-lipped cake to match the one in her MV to celebrate her hard work. When she saw the cake, Terri exclaimed, "I totally forgot that my birthday is coming up!" Then she choked, "I was just about to ask the Director why he wouldn't start filming yet, after making me wait so long, turns out they wanted to give me a big surprise!"

Elva Hsiao appeared in the foyer at the airport dressed casually, carrying candy, Monopoly, soft-chews and cup noodles. Her favourite is Taiwan's traditional sugar plums, and although she is worried that the African children may not like the sour+sweet taste, she hopes that they can still try this childhood favourite of hers.

Deeply involved in charity work, one could say that it is a basic rule set down by management for all their singers, but because Elva observed her mother's charity work from a young age, she immediately decided to dedicate herself to the 30 Hr Famine by visiting the children in Africa. Thus, fulfilling a long wish of hers.

She also purposely brought a camera in the hopes of capturing many good photos. Other than opening her eyes to the world, Elva hopes to share all that she sees with the citizens of Taiwan, in the hopes that they too will find a sharing heart in themselves. Her resolution is due to past hardships, and Elva is returning the love by helping these children who need it, completing a cycle of help in the society.

Show Lo Films Ad; Fear of Ending Lineage, $50 Million Insured Sacks

Show "Xiao Zhu (Little Pig)" Lo was in Beijing to film a commercial for instant noodles, joking commented that the director sees him as "Jackie Chan of the Music Industry" because in the commercial, after editing, he'll be flying and jumping from building to building, besides having to jump around constantly during the filming, he had to do some hurdling/hopping over things. For this, his management had especially insured his crotch area, $50 million for his "sacks," because he's an only son, so they were in fear that his "little little pig" would accidentally get injured.

A No-Go for a $200 Million House

The script for the ad was set that he'd be at a concert, and suddenly catching the smell of the instant noodles, and he darts out to find the source of the scent. In one scene he jumped over railings about 120 cm high, and in case of "injuring sacks," they had insured $50 million, but the management expressed, "This is just normal accident precautions, no one should think too much about it."

This year, he's accepted 10 ads, and also began his world tour. With a wealth of money rolling in, he wanted to buy himself a new house. But he had previously gone to Da Zhi Ming Shui Road to look at a house, and found a tower with a riverside view, but he got scared away by the price of $2.1 Million per ping, 95 ping totaling $200 million; then he continued looking in Da An, only to find that it was even more expensive there, $2.2 Million per ping. (*ping is about 36 sq.ft.)

But actually, ever since 2006, he's already been rolling in more than $100 million, and over the past 4 years, he's already well surpassed "Cape No. 7 Hundred Million," so it's not that he can't afford this kind of mansion, but he still felt that houses are overly priced at the moment, so he'll be withholding his plans and look around first for the time being.

Will Pan confesses falling in love many times, doesn't mind worshipping money

With blind date television shows currently in vogue, even quite a number of celebrities from Hong Kong and Taiwan have become loyal fans. Last week, while in Shenzhen attending a fan club event as a beverage spokesperson, Taiwanese pop star Will Pan divulged that he himself would love to go on a blind date show. Moreover, Will hopes that he could find a girl who worships money and has a nice reputation, while he stating frankly, "I also hope that I can be with a girl whom has a stable career and will have little struggle for a decade."

Divulged having fallen in love 7-8 times

Will expressed that he hopes to have his new album released by December of this year and said, "My feelings are more heartfelt now, and the love songs (on the new album) will bring out my story. Through my songs, I show my feelings of me going through love. First love, lost love, one-sided love, declarations of love, it's all there." When asked if he's been in love numerous times, Will divulged, "Seven or eight times in my life, I'm getting close to thirty years old. That's normal at that age." When the interviewer pushed on and asked if he has watched blind date television programs, Will said, "Yes, I have. It's because I haven't been on a blind date, and I want to see how other people go on blind dates. Every time the girl turns down the guy (lit., extinguishes the flames), I get so worked up! Actually, I want to go on a blind date show, and I hope the girl doesn't turn me down and gives me some faith."

Regarding girls on those blind date shows that "worship money", Will felt that it is one aspect that results from the show. "I don't think every girl's like that. Obviously, a girl probably wants to be with a guy who has a steady career. I also hope that I can be with a girl who has a steady career and will have little struggle for a decade, but I'm not saying to worship money more. Instead, if you want to be with someone, and if you don't want there to be that much of a hassle, then it's a good thing. Yet, I feel that if you're in a relationship with someone who wants money, it doesn't matter whether you're rich or not. If you're with someone who strives for success, that's more important."

Wanting to play a villain in a movie

Activities that day included traveling out to meet with fans in Shandong and Hubei, which had Will in a good mood. When talking about his recent developments, Will replied that he will be filming another idol drama with famed producer Angie Chai (Meteor Garden, Devil Beside You, Hi My Sweetheart), with whom he had worked with previously in Miss No Good, while also hoping to work together in the future with fellow Taiwanese actress Sandrine Pinna (Summer x Summer, Poor Prince Taro). "[The new idol drama] will be funnier and different from Miss No Good. I will act with with a more dynamic personality, and with characters whose lives will have many twists." Will also revealed that he wants to play a villain the most, because "I've never did any evil deeds before, and I want to experience some for myself in my life."

Will's fan club event was also held the same day as the Golden Melody Awards, a major event in the Mandopop music industry which Will himself has never been nominated before but his good friend JJ Lin has for the Best Mandarin Singer category this year. Will responded quite proudly, "I can't (get myself nominated) because my music's not remarkable, and every award worth caring about is too tiresome. To be honest, me releasing albums for so many years is definitely an achievement for sure."

Jay Chou wants to be remembered for being "cool"

On the left: Jay Chou in Beijing.
On the right: Jay Chou visits "Jay Chou" (Jiu Kong) on the set of Big Party.

Jay Chou seems to be in a great mood these days in contrast to the bad luck-Jay who was troubled by D-list female stars, as well as box office and TV ratings woes just a few months ago. Not only he made headlines with the epic Double-J reunion, his latest album and the trailer of his first Hollywood movie have also been getting excellent response.

Sony Music held a press conference earlier this week to announce that his album, The Era, has sold over 1 million copies since its release, making it the best selling Chinese album in the first half of 2010. Jay Chou was in Beijing to celebrate the great news and also premiered the latest music video off his album, “自導自演 (Self Directed and Acted)”. He said, “(I) can’t dance as well as other people, so (my) car has to be cooler than the others.”

As for sales figures in Taiwan, JVR Music announced that the album has sold 120,000 copies in just one month, and stressed they achieved this without any repackaged version. Jay Chou was asked if they are suggesting Show Luo’s 150,000 copies of Rashomon was done by releasing multiple repackaged versions. He said, “After all, Show Luo has debuted for a longer period of time than I did. He works very hard. If (the numbers) are real, I’m very happy.”

He added, “The two of us actually went out together yesterday. He was in Beijing to film a commercial. We happened to stay at the same hotel.” Show Luo’s manager responded, “The record industry is under great difficulty, placement is not the most important anymore, it is rather the effort of the two (singers) in trying to present something good to the audience.” Although Jay Chou’s “Honest Campaign” (of not buying charts and not reporting faux figures) hasn’t had much success, he said, “I don’t mind that it’s not effective, as long as people remember that I started it, it’s very cool.”

President Chou also caught the attention of many with the trailer of his upcoming movie, The Green Hornet. Some netizens commented that he stole the show, while others said his English was better than expected. He said, “After finishing this movie, my dream of 10 years is complete. If (I) can be a bit arrogant, I hope in future I can leave the word “屌” at the Hollywood (Walk of Fame)!”

When asked how he would translate “屌” in English, he paused for a moment and said, “It’s about the same as ‘Cool’.” Jay Chou will be travelling overseas to promote the movie later this year. If it does well in the box office, he hopes to make a sequel.

Baby-J is a rocker!

It's hard not to laugh at this alien baby.

In related news, Appledaily published a very “屌” composite photo of Double J’s baby a few days ago. Jay Chou was shown the picture, to which he laughed, “How can this be so funny, it’s pretty fun indeed.”

Barbie Hsu shows off some skin in her new movie

Strange but true, Barbie Hsu plays a "perverted killer" in her upcoming movie Reign of Assassins (劍雨), which is set for release this fall. New stills from the John Woo movie show a scantily clad Da S waiting for her prey. Her character is said to be a killer with quick moves and has a pungent personality. In one particular scene, she says, “What’s good with being a man, it’s better to be a woman, because toying with men is more fun.” Reign of Assassins features 12 A-list stars from across Asia including Jung Woo Sung, Michelle Yeoh and Wang Xue Qi. It is expected to hit theaters this September.
