Heavenly Kings "Guy-Guy Love?" : Jay Chou & Show Luo Together At a 5-star Hotel

With hosts Asia's Heavenly King Jay Chou, Tu Kuo-Cgang, Mai, and Elly Otoguro on CTI Entertainment Channel, "Mr. J Channel" will premiere on 10/30 at 8 PM, and will air again at 10 PM the next day on CTI Variety, and CTV will also air it each Saturday staring 11/6 at 10 PM. Asia's Dance King Show Lo will be guesting on the first episode. When he first walked into the studio, he exclaimed, "Wow! The studio is so big." Show kept his usual humor, "I never thought about being in showbiz for 10+ years, going on a show and having you inviting me out and interviewing me!" Jay immediately teased, "I never thought that after being in showbiz for 10 years, I'd have to wait for an hour for anyone!" Though it's Jay's first time hosting a show and having to interview the very experienced Show Lo, but he didn't hold back, no matter what challenges/gags Show gave him, Jay was able to catch them and carry them well. And the gift that Show brought for good friend Jay Chou for getting a new TV show was revealing their unknown ambiguous relationship!

Show and Jay's relationship is so close that you can't imagine, having held hands and walked into a 5-star hotel! Show said, "A long time ago, Jay forgot his dormitory keys, and on a spur, he thought to go to a certain renowned 5-star hotel for the president suite. At the time, we even walked hand in hand together, thinking we'd let paparazzi catch us, but I wasn't popular, and he was a newcomer, no paparazzi wanted a picture of that!" The two even acted as gay couple, Show continued to say, "After we finished showering, we were in bathrobes sitting next to the floor-length window, chatting and watching the view. But when we were going to bed, Jay put a pillow in the middle, and warned me, don't cross this!" Jay immediately explained, "At the time he was a pretty-boy, I was afraid that while we were sleeping he'd accidentally touch me!"

Teacher Tu then continued to reveal, "Jay usually doesn't wear underwear. We'd be out on business and share a room. He'd be conservative and hide it, and in the morning when his bathroom was kicked open, I felt like I was in a park walking birds." (note : "Bird" in Mandarin can also be used as a euphemism for a guy's private area.) Getting secrets revealed, Jay wasn't to be outdone as he teased Show, "You want to embarrass me, I want to say things too!" Show's eyes opened wide looking at Jay menacingly, "What are you going to say? Cuz I was conservative about it!" Jay revealed, "One time, Show pretended to be a girl, he undid his clothes, and stood straight up, and squeezed tight, and then asked me, 'does this look like a girl?'"

Show often times would send ambiguous text messages to Jay, Show said, "I once sent him a text message, 'Do you love me," he responded, "Gross, you think I'm a chick!" I sent a second text so he'll tell me he "loves me," he responded, "Insane." And then I sent another, "What's wrong with saying you love me?" Jay said, "Wasn't he being ridiculous? Kept asking me if I loved (him), but I still responded, "(I do)Love." Show then said, "There was this one time I called him, and called him 'Baby,' he responded, 'Baby schmaby' I called again and said 'baby,'' he responded, 'Baby, my ass,' I called a third time, and said, 'Baby and he actually responded, 'Hmm?' as a response of recognition!" After he said this, everyone riled up in laughter.

Besides revealing "ambiguities" with Jay, Show also "proved" that Jay's verbal quirk "Aiyo" was originally created by him! Show said, "I still remember when he was just a newcomer, and he was teaching me piano. I was there going, aiyo, aiyo, and then he 'aiyo'd' with me. Then he soon got really popular, and this verbal quirk became his signature, at the time I wasn't popular, so no one bothered with me. Once I made a bet with him, he lost, so he had to say 'Aiyo' 50 times on TV, it was very dumb-looking!"

And finally, Show said that at a music awards ceremony in Hong Kong, Jay was one to present an award to him, and to this day he is very touched, he said, "I entered showbiz earlier than Jay, but he got popular a lot faster. At the time I was working hard from the bottom of the ladder, so when Jay handed me the award, I told myself that I must work harder! The media always said that I'd only befriend people that are popular, but I was friends with him (Jay) before he even entered showbiz!"

Mark Chao proposes to Ivy Chen

...of course not for real (you wish!). As the spokesperson for the Japanese wedding ring brand name, I-Primo, Mark Chao has already proposed three times this year! With I-Primo opening another store at Kaohsiung, Mark appeared as prince charming; he kissed his bride Ivy Chen's hand and proposed during the promotional event, which marked his third marriage proposal. Back in April of this year, he kneeled on one knee and proposed to the crowd. And just three weeks ago, he proposed to his Monga co-star Alice Ke.

Mark and Ivy’s highly anticipated “Black & White” movie happens to be filmed in Kaohsiung. Thus, the two leads came together not only to promote their movie, but also to make some extra money. Just from appearing at the event alone, Mark pocketed NT$500,000. As for the required act of proposing, Mark joked that he can even write a book about it now, “If any guys have questions about proposing, you can come ask me.”

Ivy Chen wore a wedding dress accompanied with a diamond tiara, necklace, and earrings that were worth thirty million (TWD). She revealed that she once received a diamond ring when she was studying in university, “At the time I thought that since it was so big, it must be 1 karat, but I later found out that it was only a 30 point diamond. If anyone proposes to me in the future, I think a 50 point diamond will be enough, 1 karat is too much for me.”

Cheryl Yang & Harry Chang Have Fun at KTV

Actress Cheryl Yang and Da Mouth's Harry Chang sparked up after filming idol drama "My Queen" together and started their low-profile romantic relationship last year. Even though they were photographed spending the night together, but the two still keep denying their relationship, defending it is merely "friendship."

Yesterday in early morning, reporters spotted the couple at a KTV. Cheryl walked out from the KTV room with a bunch of friends first. Then the crowd took the elevator down to the ground level along with Harry. Originally still chatting happily, Cheryl and Harry immediately stood away and kept a distance between each other. They stayed alert and kept looking around for "suspicious people" (paparazzi perhaps?). Harry intended to leave with Cheryl together, but maybe because he noticed they were being photographed, he suddenly walked away and took the taxi instead. Cheryl appeared to be a little confused, and left with her friends in the end.

It's known that night was the birthday of a staff member from "My Queen." Cheryl's manager expressed the staff is very good friends with Cheryl. Harry's manager still stressed the two's relationship is always just good friends.

Rainie Yang Wins 'Best Actress' At the 45th Golden Bell Awards

After Ariel Lin won "Best Actress" with idol drama "They Kiss Again" at the Golden Bell Awards (Taiwanese Emmy) in 2008, another idol, Rainie Yang, was crowned "Best Actress" with idol drama "Hi My Sweetheart" at yesterday's annual awards ceremony. Fellow partner in "Hi My Sweetheart" Show Luo is nominated "Best Actor," but lost to teen actor Wu Cheng Di.

Rainie and Amber Kuo are actually the judges' favorites, but judges believe Ranie had a bigger transformation compared to her usual cute, good girl image (she plays an emo loner in "Hi My Sweetheart"). As for this unexpected honor, Rainie was very nervous and excited at the same time when her name was called. She couldn't say anything at one moment, as she didn't even prepare her thank you speech. "It really is hard to win with idol dramas, hope judges can pay more attention to idol dramas in the future," she said with tears.

This year is the 10th year the 26-year-old is in the showbiz. Besides winning a Golden Bell award, she will hold a concert soon. "I received many gifts this year!," she said. She feels very proud to win with an idol drama, but also feel it's a pity that Show didn't win. "Maybe because I wasn't good enough. We helped each other out. It's a good competition though," she sighed.

In addition, this year's "Best Actor" winner Wu Cheng Di actually won over his competitors with more than half of the votes. Judges point out Show in "Hi My Sweetheart" features his romantic side; Wu depicts realism; veteran actor Chang Chen Guang has a different performance than before; James Wen's acting is between romance and realism. In the end, Wu is picked as the winner for his fresh and burden-less performance.

Fish Leong and Van Ness Wu becoming new label-mates at Universal Music

After Fish Leong’s contract ended with Bin Music, she went to Ge Fuhong’s management company. Many record companies have been negotiating a record deal with the songstress, but it has just been announced that Fish will be joining Universal Music, becoming label-mates with veteran singers Jacky Cheung and Eason Chan. In addition to Fish, Van Ness Wu will also be signing with University Music. The record company will be holding an official press conference in Hong Kong on the 25th and 26th for their signing.

AK celebrates birthday in Halloween costumes

It’s definitely not Halloween yet, but the AK duo decided to celebrate early along with Andy Chen’s 24th birthday in full Halloween gear. In his black angel costume inspired by Amit, Andy shocked his fans by saying that he will not live to be more than 65 years old. He explained that when he was 15, he had a dream where he visited the underworld and met a girl there; He promised her that he would “reunite with her 50 years later.” Although there’s no way of telling if that was true or not, he laughed, “My birthday wish is to live to be over 65 years old.”

The soon to be 18 years old Kris Shen came in his not-so-spooky vampire costume. He had already asked his *godfather Peter Ho to buy him a car, but Peter joked, “I’ll buy him a bike. If I get him a car, he’ll go pick up girls with it. It won’t be good if he gets caught with that.”

*godfather in Chinese culture is a man whose position is roughly equivalent to a foster father and without religious or legal complications.

[Updated w/ MV] Kenji Wu tries to win Yao Yao’s heart in “Love Me, Hate Me”

Following the overwhelming response for “It's Alright”, Kenji Wu moves on to the promotion of his follow up single, “Love Me, Hate Me (愛我 恨我)”. In the upcoming video, 300 extras were called in to fill a street that was especially blocked off for filming. It created so much traffic that some police officers even mistook them for gang members. Kenji Wu said of his experience, “It’s rare for a MV shoot to get the police’s attention like the movie Monga!”

The music video was in fact inspired by Kenji Wu’s observation. He noticed the increasingly serious condition of the “Herbivore Men” which leads to a shortage of “Carnivorous Men”. The singer hopes “Love Me, Hate Me” will eliminate the timid herbivores phenomenon by conveying the message, “Whether people love you or hate you, (you) must frankly be yourself.” To visualize the song’s theme, Kenji Wu plays someone who speaks out for Herbivore Men that are too afraid to take action. He leads them on a war for love by marching down the street in black tank tops…

In addition to that, Kenji Wu enlisted the help of Yao Yao (who is his junior at Seed Music) to play the role of a “Sweetheart Goddess”. It was her first time dressing up as an office lady, to which she said it was something new to her. As the number one Transformers fan, Kenji Wu performed a manly “Transformers Dance” that was choreographed by former Energy member Milk. He is very demanding of himself so the dance sequence took an entire night to film. Kenji Wu laughed and said, “The complexity of this dance has completely surpassed that of ‘The Human Centipede’!”

Doesn't this look a little familiar?...

The music video for “Love Me, Hate Me” will premiere on 10/14. His album is now available from Yesasia.

Alien Huang gets tattooed

Alien Huang (Xiao Gui) decided to show a bit of skin for European jeans brand, IZZVATI's, print ads and catalogs. In order to emphasize the spirit of design, a tattoo artist was hired to come on set and give Alien a few tattoos.

Apparently, getting tattoos reminded Alien of his younger years, "When I was a student, I thought that tattoos were really cool and debated for a long time whether to get a tattoo or not. Later on, I saw a friend of mine get a tattoo of his girlfriend's name on his arm. The two broke up in the end and he got a new girlfriend who he constantly quarreled with due to the tattoo. It completely straightened out any ideas I had about getting a tattoo."

Alien has been gaining much popularity and becoming busier lately. He just wrapped up a new idol series, 流氓校長 (roughly "Rogue Headmaster") before he was immediately contacted by IZZVATI for advertising their apparel and has also been working hard to prepare for his upcoming Hong Kong concert.

Japanese Fans Scream For Their Taiwanese Idols At Asia Music Summit

While Korean and Japanese pop stars already broke into the Chinese music market, C-pop singers are making their move to be part of the K-Pop/J-Pop industry. Recently singers from record company Avex Ariel Lin, Joe Cheng, Danson Tang, Eddie Peng, etc. gathered together and performed the first time in Japan at "Asia Music Summit" held in Tokyo.

Tickets sold out within 3 days and the concert attracted more than 2,000 fans to attend. On-screen couple Ariel and Joe, who built popularity in Japan with idol drama "It Started With A Kiss," performed together on stage and sang theme song of "Love or Bread"--"The Taste of Bread." Their appearance and intimate actions caused fans to scream their lungs out. It seems Joe was the most popular, because whenever his photo showed up, fans would scream and shout immediately. Ariel and Joe sang 6 songs in total.

All the artistes didn't need a translator to communicate with fans. They all practiced hard before the show. Eddie kept asking fans in Japanese "I'm very handsome right"; Danson also tried hard to social with fans in Japanese.

Cyndi Wang becomes a baker in new GTV drama with Mike He

Cyndi Wang and Mike He will be in a new GTV drama called “美樂加油” (roughly translates to Mei Le, go) – a love story with a bakery shop as its setting. For the drama, they specially invited the 2010 world champion pastry chef Hsu Yen-Wu as their consultant. Coincidently, SETTV also plans to film a bakery related drama next year, but GTV will get a head start in filming. The two leads got their character image styles settled just several days ago, and the drama is to start filming on the 16th.

In “美樂加油”, Cyndi Wang will play a bakery shop owner, so she has been practicing some basic skills like kneading dough and baking toasts. Mike He will play a famous music producer who falls in love with Cyndi’s toasts, which gives him inspirations for his work.

Although Mike’s popularity has been declining, GTV emphasized, “(We’re) very happy to have Mike He be in this drama, we especially asked the original novel author (單飛雪) to modify the script to fit his character.”

Mike accepted the role half a month ago and immediately began to go on a diet. Other than swimming and working, he only eats vegetables for dinner. The 180cm actor dropped from 72Kg to 68Kg. He revealed that chose less aggressive sports to lose weight due to his previous spine injury (separation of the 5th and 6th vertebrae). He said, “The doctor recommended me to go through surgery because if it gets serious, it may cause Ankylosing spondylitis, but if do, I’ll have to rest for eight months, so I don’t want to go through surgery right away.”

He really doesn’t look like his age but Jimmy Lin has turned 36 on the 15th. The crew of his upcoming movie Dynamic Angel (賽車) gave him an early celebration several days ago. He was joined by costars Cecilia Cheung, Tang Wei, Tanaka Chie and Han Jae Suk.

After becoming a dad last year, his son Kimi is now the source of happiness in his life. They interact daily by video conferencing so he won’t miss out the little one’s growth progress. Like all parents, his birthday wish is for his son to grow up peacefully and happily.

Another famous dad dropped by the set as Nicholas Tse brought along his son Lucas to visit Cecilia Cheung. Jimmy Lin was impressed by the young dad’s teaching method when Lucas was asked to get up on his own after a fall. On his movie role, Jimmy Lin said, “The sport of car racing is not only my hobby but also my career. (I’m) very thankful to director Jingle Ma for giving me this opportunity, and let me return to the big screen again.”

The resurrection of veteran idols in showbiz means a full schedule ahead for Jimmy Lin. He will work on his next movie “假如我是你 (If You Were Me)” soon after, as well as an Angie Chai-produced idol drama with Cherrie Ying. His EP and concerts will be pushed back till next year.

Fish Leong's "No If" is the most popular ringback tone

Fish Leong and Jolin Tsai are the most popular picks for ringback tones.

Due to the hit series “My Queen”, Fish Leong’s “No If” (theme song) is the most used ringback tone/music (what your callers hear) on Chunghwa Telecom since 2009. The second most used song is Korean boy group Super Junior’s “Sorry, Sorry” – indeed, anyone should be sorry for not picking up right away. Della Ding’s KTV hit “I Love Him” is third place and then it’s Jolin Tsai dominating the chart.

Despite the popularity of these ringback tracks, record companies have not been receiving a fair amount of commission from Chunghwa Telecom. The record companies only receive fees from the first month, and then all the fees the users pay from the second month and onwards go to the mobile company. The unfairness also caused General Manager Sam Duan of Rock Records to hold a banner high in the air at the Golden Melody Awards of last year, which wrote, “Telecom companies please stop abusing record companies!”

Thus, the GIO (Government Information Office) and Chunghwa decided to hold a press conference with nine other record companies including Warner Music and Rock Records to revisit their current agreement. They announced the proportion of commission for these ringback tones will be increased for the record companies.

The record industry has been in a slump due to the rise of pirated copies and illegal downloads. At the best of its time in 1997, the gross output of CDs was 13 billion (NTD), while it has dropped all the way down to 1.4 billion (NTD) last year. Digital music has almost replaced music on a physical medium – and digital ringback tones have become a great business opportunity for the record industry.

Fish Leong and Jolin Tsai both have three songs in the top 10 of the ringback tones chart. They reportedly brought in 3 million and 5 million (NTD) of commission respectively for their record companies. With the new agreement in place, record companies are expecting to receive thirty times more now that they can get commissioned on regular monthly usage and not just the first month. Many are optimistic about the change.

Robin Lee, the CEO of RIT (Recording Industry Foundation in Taiwan), expressed that Japan, Korea, and other countries in Asia have been able to derive 3 billion (NTD) from digital sales while Taiwan’s number is no more than 300 million (NTD). He believes that the change in the agreement should help the record industry greatly.

This weekly magazine also stated, for his new show "Mr. J Channel", he originally planned to invite Jolin to be a guest for this season at the very end, but because of the exposure of her relationship with Jin Rong it has been cancelled. JVR are puzzled where this idea came from, because Jay once publicly said, "People who have been rumoured with me, I won't be inviting on, why blur the focus."

Music accompanies Weibird Wei through his school days

Weibird Wei graduated from National Taiwan University this year majoring in foreign languages. He then released his debut album, fulfilling his dream of becoming a singer. Before debut, the 23 year old singer-songwriter competed on Happy Sunday’s singing contest show and won first place. He reveals that he has always loved performing since he was little; At 8, his mom once persuaded and forced him to perform with her at a community concert in front of a hundred people. He imitated his favorite idols Little Tigers’ song and dance, and received high praises from neighbors – which Weibird considers that was when his interest for music and performance began.

Weibird was on the chubby side when he was in elementary school. He gradually slimmed down as he grew taller in junior high school. However, he was met with acne problems. He describes that he “passed those days in the dark (gloomy)”. Although he had many friends, he still had low self-esteem, where he didn’t like going out much; only music and studying gave him self confidence.

Since his parents are university professors, Weibird has been very well disciplined since little. He calls himself a goody two-shoes and expresses that he used to be so well behaved that he didn’t even know how to fight, “When I was in junior high, one time I was talking very loudly and a student from another class heard my voice and thought that I was shouting at him. He waited outside for me after class and beat me up badly, but I was so scared that I couldn't fight back. Even if I was able to fight back, I wouldn’t know how.”

Weibird has a brother who’s 8 years younger. Due to the age difference, Weibird is like an older brother and a father at the same time to his younger brother. He remembers that his younger brother was once bullied by others in elementary school. Even though he is mild tempered, he couldn’t tolerate his brother being bullied, so he decided to pick up his brother after school one day and purposely walked pass the bullies to scare them off. It certainly did the trick as his younger brother did not get bullied again after.

Music videos go overboard to capture viewers' attention

Have recent MVs been going overboard? In order to grab our attention, all kinds of gimmick are used such as shock, seductiveness, and gore – which raise concerns of inappropriateness for young teens. Kenji Wu’s “It’s Alright” MV was banned by the GIO due to excessive skin exposure. The MV is edited for TV broadcast while the uncut version is available on Kenji’s facebook. But the scene with his female lead’s naked body lasts no more than a second in the full version, which makes many feel that it was hype more than anything.

Jaycee Chan’s “Loyal” MV is full of anger – not only does he sing “Kill, for my country... Kill, so that I can go home alive,” the MV starts off with Jaycee and others stepping onto the hanging platform. Even though the actors use their hands as guns, Jaycee snaps and bites his enemies’ fingers, splattering blood on the screen. He sings about sacrificing for his country and fighting for his family. The heavy-metal song accompanied with its stylish yet violent concept sure is enough to shock viewers.

Lala Hsu climbs up to the top of 10 stacked chairs in her “Acrophobia” MV. She falls backwards and lets her male lead catch her at the very bottom. The scene is to portray the fearful feeling of falling down in a love relationship. Although many of us have played the game of trusting your partner to catch you when you fall back, the distance from Lala’s fall is truly too dangerously high for anyone to have any “trust” in.

In Yao Yao’s “Happiness Is Not Far Away” MV, the male lead sees a girl drowning in the water and immediately dives into the sea in attempt to save her, but both the girl and the male lead dies from drowning together. Many netizens criticize the MV for setting a bad example and expressed comments such as, “Even if you’re a swimming athlete, you don’t just rush to save a person like that,” and “you should call for help, get a stick or a life saver first.”

All that can be said is that for the sake of creativity, this year’s MVs have been going to all lengths. In regards to criticisms, an unnamed record company expressed, “If we’ve set a wrong example by mistake, we will try our best to avoid it in the future.”

Aaron Yan looking a little gloomy because of his "Salad Days"

He’s really trying his best to keep them open – The cast of "Gloomy Salad Days (死神少女)" introduced their new drama at a screening yesterday. Aaron Yan and director Zero Chou (周美玲) looked visibly tired as they have been reshooting the last 4 episodes due to script rewrites. “Death Girl” Serena Fang was in even worst condition – She fainted on set while filming at 2 am on the previous night. The actress, who suffers from asthma, experienced a shortness of breath before blacking out completely. She next found herself waking up at the hospital, “(It) felt like a meeting with ‘Death’.” They really don’t have much time left because “Gloomy” is set to premiere this Saturday at 9 pm (local time) on PTS.

Aaron Yan recently got himself into a bit of controversy over his blog. Some thought his “title” (username) was over the top as he called himself “炎天王Aaron (Heavenly King Yan Aaron)”. King Yan later explained his real name was in fact taken by another user so he just wanted to express his creativity. He also criticized some fans for requesting to take photos with him when he hasn’t slept for five days due to filming.

At the event, he clarified, “I’m constantly 'educating' them; love is not like that.” Although his company successfully got his real username back, many fans still addressed him as “Heavenly King Yan” with the flower baskets they sent to the premiere. As for the drama, Aaron Yan revealed there will be a bed scene involving him and Serena Fang. He is preparing for it by getting his six-pack ready.

Court orders Lin Chi-Ling to pay up back taxes

Taiwan’s number one supermodel Lin Chi-Ling has been ordered to pay 6.84 million NTD (~ $220,000 USD) in back taxes by the Taipei High Administrative Court. A penalty of 1.35 million NTD (~43,000 USD) was waived as they believe it wasn't done intentionally.

Her income taxes from 2003 to 2005 have in fact been disputed for many years. The main issue was whether she and management company Catwalk were working as collaborators, or she was working for them as an employee. She believes her income was earned by professional practice, so 45% of it could be expensed as per regulations.

However, the Taipei National Tax Administration believes Lin Chi-Ling was an employee of Catwalk based on the conditions of their contract. As a result, she should only be allowed to deduct NT$75,000 (~2,400 USD) from her salary. The administration maintained that she falsely reported her income tax from 03 to 05. Therefore they are asking her to pay a total of 8.19 million NTD (~265,000 USD) in back taxes and a fine.

Media outlets were out in full force at the court house to report on the ruling. They were hoping Lin Chi-Ling would make another surprise appearance like she did two weeks ago on a previous court date. Unfortunately the model was nowhere to be found as she was not in Taiwan. In a phone interview, her mother Wu Tzu-Mei (吳慈美) said they are planning to appeal.

Jam Hsiao replaces Vic and Van Ness in Killer Never Kills

Just in case anyone is still keeping tabs on this - Jam Hsiao will be the one taking over the male lead role in the upcoming movie, “The Killer Never Kills”! The filming of the movie has been postponed tremendously due to various production problems like editing the scripts and change of casts as well as directors. Vic Chou and Kong Wen-Yan were the original male lead and director. After Vic withdrew from the movie, Van Ness Wu and Director Cheng Yu-Chieh took over the project. But Van Ness later had to withdraw due to scheduling conflict, and the movie project was said to have been scrapped once and for all.

However, Film Mall Production announced just several days ago that the movie will now be directed by MV director @pple and singer Jam Hsiao will replace Vic and Van Ness as the new male lead. It will also be Jam’s first big screen appearance. The previous female lead Sandrine Pinna will also be replaced by Lin Chen-Xi (林辰唏). The movie is finally set to begin its filming in November.

In related news, Director Cai Yue-Xun’s “Black & White episode 1” movie has also been met with many pre-production obstacles which caused its filming to be delayed several times. Recent rumors surfaced that Hong Kong singer and actor Alex To has joined the cast and is already going through training for his role in Taipei. Alex’s manager expressed that it is still in discussion and Prajna Works also admitted that they have been in contact with Alex.
