The most money-making drama idols: dark horse Peter Ho surpasses Jimmy Lin

We’ve already seen President Chou crowned as the top earning Taiwanese singer for 2010, now let’s take a look at the top earners in the drama business.

Peter Ho, taking on Summer’s Desire as both a male lead and a producer, netted in an estimated 220 million NTD this year and claimed the top spot ahead of veteran idol, Jimmy Lin. Ming Dao, despite an underperforming drama, managed to rake in mounds of cash from endorsements and events in the mainland to take third place this year. The highest earning actress came in fourth place, and is none other than Rainie Yang, who has enjoyed a fruitful year in singing, acting and endorsements. Newlywed Barbie Hsu rounds off the top five, proving she’s also a money making machine.

The list has seen an almost complete change from last year, where the top five places were occupied by Jerry Yan, Rainie Yang, Joe Cheng, Vic Zhou and Joe Chen.

The Top five earners 2010:

1. Peter Ho, 220 million NTD
2. Jimmy Lin, 122 million NTD
3. Ming Dao, 110 million NTD
4. Rainie Yang 100 million NTD
5. Barbie Hsu, 90 million NTD

Jay Chou is the top money maker of 2010

Which is no surprise. Appledaily has crowned Jay Chou as the top money making singer of 2010. The popular annual ranking was based on figures provided by record companies, advertisers and concert organizers.

President Chou has outdone himself again by making an estimated 852 million NTD in 2010. It was only a year ago when he broke the 700 million mark, which earn him the title “Cape 700 million” (referencing the hit movie “Cape No. 7”.) Jay Chou completed 31 shows as part of his world concert tour, 20 paid performances, as well as numerous endorsement deals.

Coming in second was none other than his ex Jolin Tsai. The songstress was estimated to have earned 457.69 million NTD from music royalties, endorsements, concerts, paid performances and clothing line. Since the inception of this ranking in 2004, Double-J has earned a whopping 4.9 billion NTD with 3.1 of it coming from Jay Chou alone. Behind them in third place was S.H.E. Prior to Selina’s accident, the group has already earned 380 million NTD in 2010. In addition to album sales, endorsements and concert tour, they also showed their diversity with Ella’s drama and Hebe’s solo album.

Here is a full list of the top ten money makers:
1. Jay Chou, 852 million NTD
2. Jolin Tsai, 475.69 million NTD
3. S.H.E, 380 million NTD
4. Show Luo, 341.3 million NTD
5. Leehom Wang, 245.08 million NTD
6. Fahrenheit, 220 million NTD
7. ELVA Hsiao, 214.04 million NTD
8. Mayday, 171.5 million NTD
9. Kenji Wu, 155.75 million NTD
10. Rene Liu, 136.12 million
(100 million NTD = approx. 3 million USD)

Note: These figures are mostly exaggerated but the placements give us a pretty good idea of how they measure up.

Rainie visits Wu Chun's home?

Rainie Yang and Wu Chun have understandably gotten closer due to filming GTV's idol drama, "Sunshine Angel". They seemed to have become so close that after Rainie won the 2010 Golden Bell Best Leading Actress Award, she immediately flew to Wu Chun's homeland, Brunei, for vacation. Though there were rumors of them being together, after further investigation, it was confirmed that Wu Chun was in Mainland China for album promotions with the rest of Fahrenheit. But Rainie was indeed in Brunei and was vacationing together with her mother.

The reason that Rainie chose Brunei to spend her vacation from the 25th-28th was because of Wu Chun's enthusiastic recommendation during "Sunshine Angel" filming. Not only that, Wu Chun's assistant, who is also his older cousin, helped her book the hotels and made suggestions for her itinerary. Her manager has denied any entering and leaving of Wu Chun's home in Brunei, as some have reported seeing, or that they even met considering he was busy with promotions in Mainland and shooting a commercial in Guangzhou.

"Sunshine Angel" still has no slated air date yet, and will most likely be pushed to early next, but the two leads seem to be getting along just fine.

Won Fu returns as Won Fu Junior

Last month, the folk band Won Fu announced that they were taking leave from the music scene, but they are immediately coming back as Won Fu Junior (Xiao Won Fu / 小旺福). The Juniors are set to release their very first rock-style chidren’s album titled, “飛向你飛向我” (roughly translates to Fly To You Fly To Me). Won Fu explained that they really liked the classic and even borrowed the line of lyrics for their new song.

Just several days ago, Won Fu Junior were filming their new MV together with sixty children. Won Fu tried their best to keep the kids under control and cooperate with the filming by playing games with them. In the MV, the Won Fu members also transform into animated chibi versions of themselves to bravely overcome obstacles and defeat an evil dragon.

Mike He hopes to break out ratings losing streak with upcoming drama "Sunny Happiness"

Ever since Mike He's breakout year with 2005's Devil Beside You, the Taiwanese idol hasn't exactly gotten lightning to strike twice. With underachieving Why Why Love, underwhelming Bull Fighting, and now unmemorable Calling For Love under the actor's belt, Mike can at least look forward to next year to make up for lost ground.

With Mike's baking-themed drama Mei Le, Go also starring Cyndi Wang still in pre-production, the next drama to see the light will be mainland Chinese-financed drama Sunshine Happiness featuring fellow Taiwanese actress Janine Chang of The Hospital and Black & White fame.

If you're not up to speed on Sunny Happiness, then think of it as a cross between Taiwanese drama Autumn's Concerto and Korean drama Full House and you're basically there. Check out the 10-minute trailer to preview what may be Mike's most serious drama to date and judge for yourself whether it's your cup of tea.

New video previews for Joe Cheng and Amber Kuo's "Channel-X" shed some light on plot details

It'll be a couple more weeks until we get our dose of Joe Cheng and Amber Kuo's latest drama Channel-X, but SETTV has tangled in front of us a few videos that offer glimpses of the plot details. When this idol drama was first announced, the only plot information given was some sort of rivalry between a news anchor (Joe) and a paparazzi (Amber), but based on the video previews, the story is clearly much more complex that that.

It's already shaping up to be a thriller along the theme of existing Taiwanese thrillers such as Black & White, but replacing the traditional law enforcers protagonists with more unorthodox news providing ones. At least it's a nice change of pace from your usual romantic dramas and romantic comedies as of late.

Alien Huang forms new 12-member group Playboyz

Not to be outdone by Korean boyband Super Junior, Taiwan's Alien Huang leads labelmates 2MORO, Fun 4 Band, 君子號 (Nobleman’s Roar), SK8, and Wei Guo Yuan to create 12-member group Playboyz.

The Playboyz name proudly displays how its members can both play and sing, with hosts, skateboarders, commercial stars, songwriters, and schoolboy looks adding to their appeal. They’ve joined forces to fight the Hallyu wave in a compilation album titled “Happy New Year這個讚” (Happy New Year: Praising This), with the songs and lyrics meant to celebrate New Years in a brisk and light melody.

Meeting to take promotional photos, the 12 members found that each of their outfits had a personal style, ranging among punk rock, American skaterboy, a classic schoolboy look, and Japanese trends. They bravely swiped on black nail polish, with first-timers marveling at how "cool" it was. As the senior familiar to fashion magazine covers already, Alien Huang took the role of photographer as he snapped pictures and guided his juniors.

Now the largest male music group in Taiwan, the 12 members of Playboyz constantly talk about what the “Trendy” is. Whether it's the latest Japanese clothing brands or limited doll releases, they'll talk about it all. With Alien Huang also advising his juniors how to pick up girls, their relationship only grows closer.

With preorder sales already on, Playboyz releases their first compilation album on December 18.

Ella & Her Dementia Grandmother Lend a Hand in Director Yang Li-Zhou’s Latest Documentary Movie – [The Long Goodbye]

[The Long Goodbye] is Director Yang Li-Zhou’s latest documentary. Even S.H.E’s member – Ella ,and her grandmother who was suffering from dementia, lent a hand.

Taiwanese Golden Horse Acclaimed Best Documentary Director, Yang Li-Zhou’s latest documentary – [The Long Goodbye] held a premiere on 18 Nov 2010. Veteran actor Sun Yue, who will receive the “Special Contribution Award” in this year’s Golden Horse Awards Ceremony, also gave his support during the occasion, saying, “Focus on the charity, and not Sun Yue.” Even S.H.E’s member, Ella, also lent a hand in the filming of this meaningful documentary by appearing in the film with her grandmother who suffered from dementia.

Meanwhile veteran Xu Li Gong, who will also receive the “Lifetime Achievement Award” during this year’s Golden Horse Awards, had watched the [The Long Goodbye] a month ago in the production company and commented, “The box office of this documentary is sure to break thousands of millions. To me, it should not be a problem to exceed NT$30,000,000!” The comment has gotten Director Yang to be shocked and he immediately added, “I will swim in buff so long as the box office sales exceeds NT$2,000,000, not to mention exceeding thousands of millions…!”

Earlier on, Director Yang Li-Zhou won the Golden Horse Best Documentary Award with his documentary – [Summer Miracles] (literal translation). This time, the production of his latest documentary – [The Long Goodbye] took 2 years to complete filming and half a year for post-filming editing. In response to such a reflective documentary movie, Sun Yue expressed, “I am filled with great gratitude and appreciation for people like Yang Li-Zhou who took the effort to film a documentary like [The Long Goodbye] about the elderly with dementia.”

In [The Long Goodbye], there is also a specially featured story. Despite her busy work schedule earlier in the year, S.H.E’s member – Ella, has specially dedicated a day and volunteered to bring the director and filming crew back to her hometown in Pingtung county, to document the story of her grandmother who suffered from dementia. This special feature of [The Story of Chen Jia Hua (Ella) and Her Grandmother] is shown as a finale to the documentary. The featured story created a great impact on the audiences as it was shown just when most of them thought that the documentary is over; upon seeing the closeness, interactions and true affections between Ella and her grandmother, audiences were once again overwhelmed and deeply moved!

The documentary will be screened in various locations in Taiwan from 26 Nov 2010. All proceedings from the box office will be donated for the continued support, care and work for dementia elderly.

Golden Donkey gives recognition to the worst in feature films

After months of voting and discussion, the Golden Donkey finally announced its winners. The awards were created by Nownews to recognize the worst of the worst in Chinese movies. Some of its A-list nominees included Andy Lau in “Future X-Cops (未來警察)”, Barbie Hsu in “Adventure of the King (龍鳳店)” and Donnie Yen (for Worst Action) in “14 Blades (錦衣衛)”.

A little-seen movie called “Kingfisher (魚狗)” topped them all by becoming the biggest winner in the inaugural Golden Donkey awards. The film's director Kuang Sheng is best known for his music videos, especially the ones in which he has been accused of plagiarizing. Netizens voted Kingfisher as the Worst Movie, Worst Director and Worst Kiss. After hearing the news, Kuang responded, “I respect their decision, but (I) still hope everyone can watch this movie in detail.”

Other winners included Frankie Gao for Worst Actor and Barbie Hsu for Worst Actress. Gao commented on his win, “This is totally in line with the public’s expectations. It lets Andy Lau lose without regrets!” Surprisingly, there was an upset in Worst Action as “The Treasure Hunter (刺陵)” beat the favourite “14 Blades”. Netizens especially despised a scene in which Jay Chou and Lin Chi Ling raced across the dessert on his motorcycle.

So…were there other movies that should have made the list? Any movie that was so lame that you wanted your time and money back? Or are you curious enough to watch these “winners” to see how truly awful they are?

Ethan Ruan takes home Best Actor at the 47th Golden Horse Awards

Ethan Ruan was the lone Taiwanese representative in the Best Actor category at this year’s Golden Horse Awards. Many thought his chances were slim since he was up against three established mainland actors. He pulled off the upset in the end, and as promised before, he brought along a cardboard cut out of his “Monga” costar Mark Chao on stage to accept the honor.

Ethan Ruan couldn’t hide his excitement while girlfriend Tiffany Hsu looked on in disbelief. Ruan said he had hoped to win the award within 20 years, but was shocked that his dream was being fulfilled today. He thanked his family for their continuing support, as well as his “brothers” from Taichung who were very helpful during the filming of Monga.

Now here is a slight problem: Earlier in the ceremony, host Dee Hsu (Xiao S) told Ethan Ruan that she has supported him all along. She asked him how he would repay her if he won. Ruan responded, “Although I can’t give you my heart, I can give you my body!” However, Dee Hsu immediately felt a coldly gaze coming her way from the direction of Tiffany Hsu. She complained, “Why did you bring your girlfriend to the awards ceremony? It’s such a downer!”

With his big win, does it mean we will never see Ethan Ruan in silly idol dramas again?

Weibird Wei gets ready to begin military service

After debuting only six months ago, singer-songwriter Weibird Wei will begin his military duty on November 22. He has been selected as the lead vocalist for the military band to promote anti-drugs along with guitarist and Sodagreen member A-Fu. Anxious to fulfill his military service, Weibird proudly exclaimed that his head shape is perfect and is not afraid of shaving his head. He once said that after he finishes his military service, he would move to do behind the scenes work, which upset many fans; He laughed that since he is still under contract (as a singer) right now, going to fulfill his military duties simply equals to “leave without pay.” However, he expressed that he would still like to go abroad to learn more about recording and producing music in the future.

Weibird went on his good friend DJ Calvin’s POP Radio show. Other than sharing his experience from being in the military, Calvin also gave him “five treasures” to send him off: Chinese pain relief medicine, paper underwear, stainless steel chopsticks, disposable razors, and a photobook of Angela Chang. Upon seeing the photobook of his senior and labelmate, Weibird laughed in embarrassment, but Calvin quickly clarified, “Don’t get this wrong! This is for you to share and get to know others, not for you to enjoy yourself.”

Check out the video below to hear Lala Hsu, Lin Yu-Zhong, and Weibird's new rendition of the nursery rhyme Old MacDonald Had a Farm:

Aaron Yan to throw birthday concert, rumored to pull a Hebe and go solo

With Fahrenheit member Aaron Yan's birthday fast approaching this Saturday, the youngest member of Taiwan's popular boy band plans to hold a birthday concert at music venue hot spot The Wall in Taipei tomorrow night. Aaron especially took the time to learn a special song in the Taiwanese language to sing to his mother, in which he practiced for half a day. Aaron's senior Hebe of S.H.E also had a birthday concert back in late March, and she eventually released her own solo album half a year later.

Rumored plans for going solo and releasing mini-album

Insiders are saying that Aaron is making plans to go solo for his own mini-album, where a reporter for Apple Daily questioned the Fahrenheit member if he was the best singer in the group. The highly modest Aaron shyly laughed and said, "I really want to respond, but I'm sorry." Not much details are known about Aaron's solo plans, but his recent contract renewal confirms that his options allow for such a move.

Selina Jen able to get up and sit on wheelchair to relieve boredom

Twenty-six days after sustaining horrific third-degree burns on almost half her body from a tragic accident on set, singer/actress Selina Jen of popular Taiwanese girl group S.H.E demonstrated a strong sense of willpower and was able to remove the gauze from her left arm the day before yesterday. Selina's progress has improved so much that she is able to get out of bed and sit up on a wheelchair for the first time since her hospitalization. While seated in her wheelchair inside the small medical ward, Selina pretended to go for a spin in fresh air, but the adored celebrity gradually recalled her accident and eventually started to cry non-stop once more.

Selina's music label HIM International Music recently made an announcement of Selina's medical condition, where in addition to having gauze from her thumbs removed several days ago, gauze from around her face and from her left arm were later removed. Doctors recommended that Selina also switch from an air bed to a mattress in order to turn over while she is lying down, and to also make it more convenient to move around with her own strength.

Selina's greatest improvement from her condition was switching to a mattress, where she is able to get out of bed and into a wheelchair, since it was the first time since she sustained injuries on October 23rd that she is able to get up from a lying position. Following improvements in her condition, Selina excitedly asked a nurse to push her around several times for some carefree fun. Even though Selina's fun lasted for a quarter of an hour, she was indescribably happy towards her father: "I really wish to be like an infant sitting in baby stroller, loitering around a green pasture."

Selina's father also posted on his micro-blog, revealing that the more awake she is, the more she suffers from insomnia. A psychiatrist is giving treatment to Selina's insomnia through storytelling in order to gauge Selina in recalling the course of events that went on through the accident. In the meantime, Selina's father humbly prayed for her daughter to "have a good night's rest tonight."

Jay Chou and his sidekick grandmother say "No!" to smoking

When Jay Chou isn't fighting crime as a detective in "Pandamen" or as a vigilante sidekick in "The Green Hornet", the 31-year-old Taiwanese superstar is doing his part to fight smoking with the help of his own trusty sidekick...his grandmother!

That's correct, Jay has teamed up with his 87-year-old grandmother to shoot a commercial for an anti-smoking campaign, and the singer/actor is doing it free of charge to combat the increasing activity of smoking amongst the youth.

Working with his grandmother wouldn't be the first for the popular entertainer, as Jay's grandmother has made several cameos for his MVs in the past. Yet, collaborating together for a commercial marked a first time for her, which explained why she felt nervous during the shoot. Fortunately though, Jay expressed that the shoot went pretty smoothly, and even stated that his grandmother was able to get her lines off correctly in just three takes as everyone was in smiles once the camera started rolling.

Jay had no qualms in doing the commercial for free, and was more than happy to participate in the anti-smoking campaign once he found out that he could take part in a rare opportunity to work with his own grandmother. It also helps that Jay himself finds smoking disgusting and considers not smoking to be "cool".

Da S Can't Wait No More, Finishes Marriage Registration in Beijing

Engaged after meeting fiance Wang Xiao Fei just four times, Barbie Hsu (Da S) cannot wait any longer to be married. Yesterday she and fiance went to Beijing to get marriage certificate together and finished the registration in 10 minutes.

Da S took a few days off from the filming of film "Da Wu Sheng" and flew back to Taiwan to get necessary documents. Then she went to Beijing to meet Wang and the two went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to register. According to a good friend of Wang, there is no special meaning for the two to register on the 16th. "Because Da S' registered permanent residence is not in Mainland, so it takes a little longer to finish the process. Today is the perfect day and they just cannot wait any longer," the friend disclosed.

Because not many people were there at the office, the couple finished the process quickly without being noticed by fans and media. They finished this simple registration in just 10 minutes.

Although they are now registered as a married couple, however, they are not legally husband and wife yet. It is known the process is quite complicated in their case. They need to wait for a 7-10 days notarization period, then another 15 business days while their certificate is being verified by Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation. After the waiting, Wang needs to be interviewed in Taiwan. The whole process takes about 2-3 months in total.

It is also known the couple is holding their wedding next year in March and they will hold at least 3 times. First in Hainan Island, then in Taiwan, and lastly in Beijing.

It is the 24th day since S.H.E member Selina was injured from an explosive accident. The singer is on a good track of recovering. Besides some of her fingers can be exposed, bandages on her face are gradually being removed. Yesterday Selina's dad Ren Ba wrote on Weibo happily that even his daughter's face is now unbandaged.

Selina asked for a mirror after changing medicines yesterday. The nurse looked at Ren Ba nervously, wondering what she should do. But in fact Selina has been examining herself by self-snapping photos on the bed. It seems she is facing her injured face calmly. Looking at her face after it was unbandaged, Selina teased herself as a red Guan Gong (Guan Gong is known for having a red face).

Although her road of recovery is extremely long, but Selina is getting better everyday. Good sister Hebe Tien quoted Selina's words: "I was once pretty. If I end up having scars in the future, they would be my marks of life." Her bravery and toughness impressed everyone, even her colleagues expressed she is not the Selina they once know.

Newspapers at war over Jay Chou’s show

Jay Chou’s first ever hosting gig became the center of a media war after it premiered two weeks ago. Many are curious to find out whether he can make a half decent host. We won’t elaborate on his performance, but here are the facts: “Mr. J Channel” scored 0.32% in its debut on Cti (the cable network which produces the show.) The second episode dropped to 0.26% a week after. CTV aired the same episode two hours later and averaged 0.78%.

President Chou is angry at Liberty Times for its negative reporting on his show. The paper called Mr. J's ratings a disappointment, and accused him of using his once-rumored girlfriend Lin Chi-Ling to generate publicity for the show. In contrast , China Times has been singing its praises, which is no surprise, considering its parent company also owns Cti. Jay Chou expressed his dissatisfaction through his friend’s blog, even questioning if the paper was ill. Cti then took it to the next level – They banned Liberty Times from all on-set interviews.

Liberty Times retaliated by calling Chou “Arrogant” and said it would report about the show’s good ratings if it happens. In response, Jay Chou said he is indeed “Arrogant”, but definitely not as arrogant as Liberty Times. He pointed out that the paper claimed its sales are higher than China Times and UDN combined. In the midst of this “feud”, Nownews (online news site) took an interesting look at what it went on behind the scenes:

Brief Summary: Over 50 reporters attended the latest press event for Jay Chou's show. Even Variety Big Brother Chang Fei was there to show his support. However, one news outlet was noticeably missing as Liberty Timer wasn't invited. Without one of the major newspapers to promote his show, Jay Chou had to side with Appledaily instead. He has criticized paparazzi (which the paper is famous for) numerous times in the past, even calling them “dogs”. But for the sake of his show, the star sat down for a chat with reporters from “Apple”.

So did it help? Jay Chou didn’t make the front page of Appledaily’s entertainment section, but the paper did publish a piece called “President Chou: Strikes Back at media with foul language ‘Lin Bei'; not able to ignore (negative news) like Lin Chi-Ling". And UDN? Staying true to its bland style, it went with the title "Media criticizes host, Jay Chou retaliates by banning (them)".

Jam Hsiao and Vic Chou are new BFF?

Just yesterday (11th) on his micro-blog, Jam Hsiao proudly announced that his “beloved and handsome Vic Chou” will be his special guest at his very first concert in the Mainland on the 27th (in Beijing). Jam explained that he was about to "die from keeping it a secret" for the longest time since he had to wait for the permit to be approved before he could publicly announce it.

Jam turned into a Vic fan after watching “Meteor Garden” and “Mars”; they met at a charity event earlier this year and immediately became friends. Jam’s manager Summer revealed that the two often chat in “their own language” and keep in touch via texting and blogging, “It’s like they’ve known each other in their previous life.” Furthermore, Jam even has the same birthday has Hanazawa Rui (花澤類, March 30), which is the character that Vic played in “Meteor Garden”, but like the fans say, it’s just a mere coincidence.

Both Jam and Vic have the same interests in playing video games and riding motorcycles; they joked that they should form a group. Being fans of Andy Lau, they originally planned to reenact “A Moment of Romance” for the concert where they would ride on a motorcycle together – with Vic in the front while Jam hugging him from the back. But unfortunately, the Mainland did not approve of the act, so fans won’t be able to see the couple snuck tightly on a motorcycle.

Vic is currently filming “Returning Home (回家)” in Shanghai, but he specifically advised his manager that he must free out the time to be Jam’s special concert guest, making Jam very touched.

In related news, Jam recently accepted his very first movie project “The Killer Never Kill (殺手歐陽盆栽)” as the lead, which was originally with Vic.

Unless Pregnant Vivian Will Not Sign Relationship Contract

Artist Vivian Hsu said today, she won’t be like Big S having a flash engagement, where love needs to have a contract (meaning wedding certificate) is really strange, it’s fine when two people have an agreement together, it’s not necessary to must have a contract, except if there’s a child, the child needs to have security then I will sign it.

Today Vivian went to Shen Chun Hua’s program to promote the new film “Juliet”. The already 35 year old Vivian admitted that there are no potentials yet. She said there’s no way of putting her heart down to hold a relationship, even though not deliberately, but she has yet to have met someone where she can go have a good relationship.

Vivian said the only one relationship that was public was with the Japanese guitarist, since she is a public figure; you have to respect the other’s thoughts. She said, once the relationship is exposed it will be the topic of meal conversations, even if you’re working hard, the main focus will be transferred over.

In “Juliet” Vivian plays a character that bravely chased love, is that the same for her in real life? Vivian laughed “I am! Bravely chasing my love for the stage.” Will she be like Big S having a flash engagement? Vivian firmly said, “I just won’t sign the contract, and will not annoy myself with future situations where they have not happened yet.”

But Vivian has also said, if she’s pregnant, then she’ll sign (marry), if not she won’t sign if not pregnant. She said love is really strange if you have to sign a contract, as long as too people together have an agreement then that’s fine, it’s not necessary to have to sign, unless there was a child, then to give the child security will sign it.

Mentioning of the earlier incident at the Tokyo film fest, Vivian is really frustrated. She said she’s just an artist, to be pulled into political factors, “if not able to withstand it, will collapse.”

Joe Cheng angrily responds to critics: "I'm not gay!"

During a recent broadcast from a television program, mixed-European model/actress Larisa/Rui Sha of Taiwanese idol drama "They Kiss Again" asked her former colleague Joe Cheng if he was gay. Also recently, when Joe attended a celebration for the online drama "That Love Comes" with fellow mainland Chinese co-star Li Fei Er and was asked a similar question, the Taiwanese actor was initially shocked and then flatly said while shrugging, "I'm not gay. Everyone knows that I like girls." Fei Er chimed in immediately and said, "Of all the actors I've collaborated with, Joe is the most masculine one."

On the television program, Larisa revealed her private matters and stated that while she admired previous acting colleague Joe during "TKA", she later thought that Joe was actually gay. According to the European model, Larisa commented about the the famous male star "in three words: tall, handsome, well-mannered," followed with "but the media describes him with one word." Netizens pointed out that Larisa has also acted alongside male celebrities Jiro Wang and Ming Dao, and that among them, she was highly suspicious of Joe having homosexual feelings with Taiwanese actor Mike He.

Joe had no other option but to respond that people clearly needed an opportunity to have a new scandal topic, but that he hoped that things don't go too far, stressed not to publish opinions that are harmful to others, and re-iterated that he himself "isn't gay". Yet Joe doesn't feel disappointed towards the entertainment business, and expressed that the people in his social network are charming. He also wants to attempt even more admiring challenges in the future, whether they be on of off the stage.

Online idol drama "That Love Comes" will broadcast six episodes, and it currently already enjoys thousands of views. To celebrate the occasion, male and female leads Joe and Fei Er happily dressed up as bride and groom, where the bride-dressed Fei Er heroically gushed out, "If we break a hundred million views, then I'll swim naked!"
