"Love You" scores big with bed scene

Joseph Chang and Rainie Yang’s bed scene sure helped the drama boost its ratings. Episode six of “Love You” scored an average of 4.22% last Sunday, becoming the winner of its time slot. Both Joseph and Tom Price have agreed to dive into the water if ratings break 5%. Seeing that the drama is not far from the mark, the two actors have already started working out. However, netizens are not quite satisfied with just a dive, some have requested for Joseph to go skinny dipping like Ethan Ruan when ratings reaches 10%.

Five particular scenes scored above 5% on last Sunday, which included Joseph and Rainie’s bed scene, Joseph and Rainie making buns, Joseph and Rainie being surrounded by love songs, the tension between Joseph, Rainie and Tiffany Hsu’s love-triangle, and Joseph and Lin Mei-Shiu’s conversation.

Although many viewers expressed liking the main couple a lot, some worried, “If this goes on, wouldn’t it make the female lead the one stealing someone else’s love? Will this become the ‘Fierce Third Person’?” -- referencing the hit series "Fierce Wife". On the other hand, others commented, “The two lead characters already got married. It was his ex-girlfriend (Tiffany) who didn’t cherish him, so you can’t blame Xiao-Ru (Rainie)!”

In the interview afterwards, Jimmy said it was all so sudden. He didn’t know how to react. When they were kids their father always drove each one of them to school no matter how far away it was. He became the PTA president of every single school they attended, not only taking care of his own kids but other kids too.

Wu Chun has a full schedule; Fahrenheit won't be releasing an album this year

Men’s fashion label Alfred Dunhill invited Wu Chun to their grand re-opening event at one of their stores. The event attracted a hundred fans holding light-signs, welcoming the superstar. Wu Chun wore a double-breasted suit; he asked the media, “Do I look too mature in it?” Then he laughed, “I’m not young anymore. I’m not 20-something, so 30 year olds wearing this should be OK!”

Wu Chun expressed that he is mostly accompanying his family in Brunei these days, but he will be more active during the latter half of the year. As reported previously, Wu Chun withdrew from “Absolute Boyfriend” in order to shift his focus to the big screen. Thus, fellow Fahrenheit member Jiro Wang took over the role. Wu Chun was reluctant to explain, but he said, “The role is very suitable for Jiro. It doesn’t suit me well, so I do wish him all the best. Let’s not talk about this anymore. It’s not good to talk too much about it.”

Many Fahrenheit fans are interested to know whether Fahrenheit would be releasing an album this year; Wu Chun expressed that his schedule is full already, so unfortunately there will not be time for one. Nonetheless, he has been showing support for his other group members by buying 50 copies each of Calvin Chen’s and Aaron Yan’s photo books*.

*The news source says both released a photo book, but it is believed that it meant Aaron's recent solo EP.

Yisa Yu disqualified for Golden Melody Awards

The GIO released a statement today to announce that Yisa Yu has been disqualified for best new artist for the Golden Melody Awards. After thorough investigation, it was found that Yu had released an album under her current name in September of 2009 (郁可唯-《郁音繞梁DSD》/ ISRC:CN-F18-09-362-00/A.J6 / published by Guangdong Oriental Media Limited). Thus, Yu does not qualify as a new artist of 2010. The GIO also used An You-Qi’s case from the 18th annual GMA as precedence to not limit album releases to only Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu.

In related news, the head of GMA’s judging panel Jerry Huang refuted previous statements of him criticizing Hebe Tien for using “too much voice correction technology.” Huang explained, “They (reporters) asked me what I thought about Hebe, and I said, ‘her work is very exceptional, otherwise it wouldn’t be nominated for so many categories.’ Then they asked me about others who did not get nominated, so I summarized the general opinion of our judging panel but the media decided to interpret it as one thing and thought that I was criticizing Hebe.” Huang also made fun of himself, saying that he can’t sing as well as his recorded albums.

45 year-old Jerry Huang was married back in March. He and his wife Sophia, who is 24 years his junior, will be holding their wedding reception next month.

Goo Hye Sun suggests Jiro Wang to cover up

As reported previously, Jiro Wang accepted the lead role to GTV’s upcoming idol drama “Absolute Boyfriend” after Wu Chun dropped out of the project. As an adaptation to the manga, Jiro and lead actress Goo Hye-Sun were filming a scene where the naked Jiro-bot had to lie on top of Goo.

Little Jiro was only covered up by a thin pair of skin-colored safety pants. Jiro said embarrassedly, “It doesn’t look very good. They look like diapers. I don’t want to be a spokesperson for adult diapers so soon.” Goo Hye-Sun on the other hand commented, “If I was the director, I would tell him to wear more clothes.” – perhaps feeling a bit awkward acting with naked Jiro.

Controversy over Yisa Yu's GMA nomination

Following the announcement of GMA (Golden Melody Awards) nominations, many questioned the qualification of Yisa Yu for best new artist. The mainland artist released her Taiwan debut album “Blue Shorts” last year, but she had actually released three remake albums back home under her real name Yu Ying-Xia three years ago. Since the remake albums were not released in Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, or Matsu, she still qualifies as a new artist of 2010 according to GMA rules.

In regards to the controversy, GIO (Government Information Office)’s Publishing Department director Chang Chung-Jen expressed that they have a team of people who checks each applicant’s qualification. The head of GMA’s judging panel Jerry Huang responded, “From what I know, Golden Melody’s rule is that if a nominee’s qualification is in question, a conference will be held to determine a final verdict, and the results will then be announced by the GIO.”

Since the GMA accepts applications from artists of other parts of Asia Pacific, the media pointed out that GMA’s rule for new artists is out-dated. For example, Yisa qualifies as a new artist of 2010 in Taiwan despite having previously released albums in the mainland, but on the other hand, Hebe Tien does not qualify because she has released albums as part of S.H.E in Taiwan before. Yisa’s record company Rock Records defended, “Those albums were from before she competed on the singing competition show ‘Super Star’. Not many copies were published, and they can’t be considered as actual completed works.”

Jerry Huang also explained that Hebe was not nominated for best female singer because “her album used too much voice correction technology.” His comment has led to an uproar from Hebe fans as they criticize him for “not knowing music.”

The media asked Hebe if she would release an unplugged album just to prove her vocal ability, and Hebe laughed, “We wouldn’t need to produce actual albums then. We might as well just take $500 (TWD) from a passer-by and sing to them without any background music.”

Jay Chou attracts over 100 in Malaysia

Emperor Motion Picture major production THE VIRAL FACTOR (YIK JIN) began production in Malaysia. Although the team spent almost two hours with the equipment, Chairman Chou only needed five minutes to complete the shoot. Director Dante Lam Chiu Yin immediately accepted the take and the professionalism left many in awe.

After the taxi scene, Chairman Chou rested for several hours. Because the location was a residential area, many who heard about the shoot rushed over for a glimpse of Chairman Chou. Over 100 people filled the location. Hearing the fan screams, Chairman Chou nodded and smiled in response to everyone's enthusiasm. When Chairman Chou appeared again at 10PM, he had a scene with Liu Kai Chi. Uncle Chi who played a street eatery boss appeared in a floral print shirt and a shaved head look. Voice work makes Gary Chaw think singing is easy

Gary Chaw (Cho Gat) recently has been busy recording his latest record and rehearsing for his world tour, but he still made time to come to Hong Kong for the LET'S GO (SIU SEUNG HUP) post production voice work. The film had many action scenes, so Cho Gat had to coordinate with different special effects during voice work. Normally singing was very easy for Cho Gat, but this time providing his voice in front of a screen was very difficult for him. Sometimes due to the sound effects even he moved accordingly, which made him look like an idiot acting with nothing. The crew all cracked up. Cho Gat said that the voice work was even more difficult than the fights in the film. He said that he was still more suitable for stage performance.

On the day of the voice work, Director Wong Ching PO personally supervised. Cho Gat said that before the shoot he saw Wong Ching Po's past work like MOB SISTER (AH SOH), JIANG HU, FU BO and the most recent REVENGE A LOVE STORY (FOOK SAU JEH JI SEI). Cho Gat honestly said that he admired his unique handling of his film, like the light and dark visual designs. The director's unique views inspired Cho Gat a lot musically.

Wong Ching Po also revealed that his mother was a Cho Gat fan, but last time in hong Kong she missed Cho Gat's concert. Cho Gat immediately invited the director and Mother Wong to attend his July concert in Malaysia. Wong Ching Po said that his new film might shoot on location in Malaysia. Cho Gat joked that after the concert he could take him around to scout location, maybe he would have a chance to play the lead.

Wu Chun, Han Geng risk their lives to create martial art actors

The Gao Xiaosong directed, Sammo Hung Kam Bo action directed, Han Geng, Wu Chun, Barbie Hsu (Tsui Hei Woon), Yuen Biao and Annie Yi Nengjing starred MY KINGDOM yesterday held its first trailer press conference. Han Geng, Wu Chun struck the drums for the occasion. The film will open in August. Two popular idols Wu Chun and Han Geng talked about the production and joked that they wanted to become action director Hung Kam Bo's disciples to form "Beijing Martial Art Gate" (sounds like CHINESE CONNECTION Chinese title). In the trailer, everyone fought for a "top martial art actor" golden plaque. In the film Wu Chun and Han Geng played martial art acting disciples who grew up together. They carried their school's destiny to win back the title and finally they had to fight to the death.

In the trailer the martial art designs were the biggest attractions. Han Geng and Wu Chun's close combat on the ladder was eye opening. Wu Chun said that for this scene he was on the wire for a week and was bruised all over from it. First time actor Han Geng held nothing back to complete his stunts. A few days into the production he already pulled a muscle. The stunt team described him as "fresh seafood". When asked who was stronger, they humbly said that the other was the real "major martial art actor".

Hung Kam Bo said that out of over two movie films, less than ten had an excellent script. MY KINGDOM would be one of them. He spent a year to put in his years of experience as a martial art actor into the action designs. Director Gao Xiaosong praised Hung Kam Bo as the top action director today. At the press conference, two videos of Hung Kam Bo personally played the human punching bag to guide Wu Chun and Han Geng in a fight scene. Wu Chun said that Hung Kam Bo has always hoped to help even more martial art new comers. Three months before the shoot he already organized a training and taught them move by move.

Yoga Lin responds about G.E.M. at new album press conference

It has been a year and seven months since his last album, and Yoga Lin will finally be releasing his third album, “Perfect Life”, on the 6th.

The singer was spotted with his girlfriend and Hong Kong pop star G.E.M. on the street end of last year. Yoga kept a smiling face when the media asked about their relationship at the press conference for his new album. He responded ambiguously, but did not deny that they're dating.

Starting in August, Yoga will be holding concerts at seven different cities including Hong Kong. When asked if he’ll be worried about facing Hong Kong reporters, he sighed, “That’s why I have to practice (smiling) in Taiwan first.” The media then asked if he would invite his girlfriend as his concert’s special guest, he joked, “Anything is possible, I might invite Madonna.” As for whether or not he thinks G.E.M. is sexy, Yoga answered, “I think I’m sexier.”

Richie Jen believes in Karma

The Johnnie To Kei Fung produced, Law Wing Cheong directed film PUNISHED (PO YING) opens today. Earlier Law Wing Cheong along with actors Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) and Janice Man Wing Shan were interviewed. Siu Chai complained to reporters that the director was merciless. He not only beat him until he was begging for his life, one time falling metal almost hit him and the director asked him for another take. He was like a murderer. Thus the next time he directed, he definitely would make Law Wing Cheong the lead so he could properly return the favorite.

Siu Chai said that every time he made Law Wing Cheong's film he had to fight. Earlier with 2 BECOME 1 (TIN SUN YUT DUI) he and Chin Wa fought for three days. His head was swollen while Chin Wa injured her leg. He could not help but ask whether the director disliked him. This time Siu Chai played a bodyguard, naturally he had to fight. Finally he truly fought until he beg for his life. He recalled, "Once metal fell from above and almost hit my collarbone. At the time I was really scared, but the director asked him for another take. He truly is merciless, he has to know that I rely on my face to make a living! He is just like a murderer." Siu Chai honestly said that if in the future he had money to direct, he definitely would ask Law Wing Cheong to be the lead and also asked Ah To to participate. He even suspected Law Wing Cheong suffered too much with Ah To so he took it out on actors. Law Wing Cheong denied that he took it out on actors and said, "Ah To tortures him even worse! I am OK!" However he agreed for Ah To be the actor so he could experience how tough it was. He suggested, "With Ah To, he won't need to be hit or yell at, just fill his entire body with reaction bullets. He always says he wants to play a hit man in movies!" Siu Chai also said that he believed in karma. This time he was lucky enough to escape the metal fall because he did a lot of good deeds.

Janice Man did not have much movie experience but many scenes in the film had to done for real. For example she truly had to lie in the dirt for the buial and relied only on the tube on her back to breathe; she also had to pretend to take drug with glucose, took a slap from (Anthony Wong) Chau Sun, a kick to the chest. The scene in which Chau Sun slapped her, Chau Sun suggested to slap her earlier for her most natural reaction. Thus her reaction was the most realistic. She said, "Every time was for real. Chau Sun slapped me eight times because it had to coordinate with different camera angles. (Was your face swollen?) It was very red! I didn't apply ice, only mask!" She also said that even though form day one she knew that the performance would be real, she never thought it would be so real. Would she be afraid of making movies? She said, "No, instead after the production I am even braver so I should thank the director."

Law Wing Cheong thought Janice Man's performance was OK for a film industry new comer. She was very smart, able to understand the importance of each scene. However he would not go easy on her because of that, otherwise he could not achieve the result that he wanted. Janice Man was not only smart but also ran into good co-stars. Law Wing Cheong said that Chau Sun helped her a lot. At first she was very afraid of Chau Sun. Janice Man said, "When his fire rages it is frightening, I as a new comer of course would be afraid. Yet the more frightened I was the less smooth the performance was, so I told myself not to be afraid." In addition, this time Chau Sun and his son Wong Yat Yat performed together for the first time. Yat Yat's performance was a pleasant surprise to the director, but Yat Yat's dream was to become a doctor. He had no interest in following his father's footstep in show business.

Jimmy Lin meets Michael Schumacher; Turns into a little fan

Jimmy Lin interviewed the F1 racing driver Michael Schumacher for the international magazine GQ in Shanghai a few days before Jimmy’s father passed away. When Schumacher found out about Jimmy’s loss he sent his condolences through his manager. The memorial service will be held on May 22, 2011 in Taipei.

Jimmy did his homework before he met with Schumacher and did the entire interview in English. He asked more than 20 questions in different areas: life, racing experiences and charity. Jimmy said, “Schumacher is my most admired F1 racer. Besides his remarkable racing records, I also highly respect his charity works. He donated money to help the refugees rebuild their homes after the 2004 tsunami."

This is Jimmy’s third encounter with Schumacher. They last met at the Shanghai F1 Circuit. Jimmy used all available channels to get into the Ferrari pit and met Schumacher himself. In other times Jimmy is always followed by fans for autographs. In front of Schumacher, he is like a little fan begging for Schumacher’s attention. There would be this funny picture of fans chasing after Jimmy and Jimmy chasing after Schumacher.

Schumacher gave Jimmy a pair of limited edition shoes that he designed and invited him to a private dinner the following day.

Pop charts: A-Mei tops sales and singles charts

After three years and eight months, A-Mei Chang’s classic ballad-style makes a comeback and easily topped the album sales chart with her latest album, “R U Watching?” However, Amit has not totally disappeared; A-Mei explained, “A-Mei and Amit finally have a duet together in ‘一個人對話’ (Talk To Myself).”

The track was originally supposed to be a duet between A-Mei and another male singer, but she decided to be more creative this time, “If you listen carefully, you’ll notice that Amit’s voice is lower and A-Mei’s voice is higher.” A-Mei’s main ballad plug “My Most Beloved” has also been well received with fans commenting that they were moved to tears from listening to the song. A-Mei explained that the song does not necessarily refer to a love relationship. The song can be about a loved one or a friend, “Someone who had a great impact on you at one point in time…maybe you want to know how that person is doing now.”

A-Mei's "R U Watching" album is now available at YesAsia!
