Amber Ann tops Five Music album sales chart

Otaku goddess Amber Ann topped the Five Music album sales chart on its first week. With a 48-page photo book free with the preorder version, it sure got the otakus rushing to buy the album. However, some netizens suspected Amber’s company of buying the placement on the chart since her album was just released on the 26th; many found it hard to believe that the album would get first place after just one day of sales.

Amber’s record company Wonderful Music emphasized, “We never pay to get first place on the sales charts. We started selling the album a day earlier (25th) at Five Music’s retail locations. Furthermore, instead of charging the regular price of $400 TWD, we sold the album for $299 and it comes with a free poster. It was a great bargain for the fans.”

Claire Kuo also released her album this past week and her new single, "Thinking Of Her While Being With Me", is first and second place on ezPeer and KKBOX digital singles charts respectively.

Here are the pop charts:

Ming Dao becomes the oldest male idol who has yet to enlist

31 year old Ming Dao (real name Lin Chao-Zhang) has just been accepted to Chungyu Institute of Technology’s Media and Visual studies program at Keelung. Back in June, Ming Dao was suspected of avoiding his military duties; the vice principal of Tungnan University, where he was studying, suggested that Ming Dao was using the school as a way to avoid his duties. Ming Dao reportedly applied to a different school as he felt uncomfortable of the way Tungnan handled the situation. Yesterday, his manager restated once again, “Ming Dao will not avoid his military duties. He will be enlisted next year.”

Ming Dao has changed to five different schools in his eleven years of study (and counting). Although he is two years away from turning 33, where it would be mandatory to accept enlistment, he has surprisingly just applied to a four-year program at Chungyu. However, his manager expressed that switching schools has nothing to do with avoiding military service. His manager further said that Ming Dao applied to Chungyu because he has an interest in media and visual studies, which is a new program that just started this year. He may go back to continue his studies after fulfilling his military duties.

Nonetheless, Ming Dao is using his remaining time to make money; after completing the filming to the TV series “The King’s Women”, he will be releasing a photo book shot in Italy; he will be heading to the mainland to promote his photo book.

Weng Tzymann to release album at end of year

Weng Tzymann appeared at a special event yesterday wearing a dress made of receipts. Besides recently hopping over to host “Apple Entertainment News”, she revealed that she will also be releasing an album at the end of the year. When asked what she thinks about other entertainers like Amber Ann, Tia Li, and Makiyo who have released albums, she replied, “They’re all very good and have different styles.” The answer was obviously not enough to satisfy the media so they requested for her to sing on the spot, but she rejected by saying, “I’ll sing for you guys another day.”

Weng Tzymann has already begun recording her album and told the media that there will be both fast and slow songs. Since she often goes to sing KTV, when asked if she would usually sing songs from her rumored boyfriend JJ Lin, she answered timidly, “Yes, yes...they’re all very good, so I would usually sing them.” But when asked if she had asked JJ to write any songs for her new album, she said, “No, no...He’s very busy.” Nonetheless, JJ still called to give her advice, which indicated their close friendship.

Weng Tzymann's sudden resignation at TVBS’ entertainment news show led to rumors of her and TVBS’ high level executive’s relationship turning hostile. However, she denied the claims. As for the show’s rating going up after new host, Hua Hua, took over, she expressed that she won’t feel pressured about it, “I think we should all work hard. I do care about the ratings too. Ratings are not that bad for the part I host.”

In related news, actress Michelle Chen also has plans to release an album. Check out her song below:

Although Kenji and Rhydian were rumoured to be on bad terms, they had friendly interactions during the event in front of fifty hot girls that attended to show their support. Kenji laughed, “When you’re too into your role during filming, it’s hard to avoid some fire.” Rhydian added, “Because of these things, our friendship has gotten even stronger! We understand each other more.”

Both Kenji and Rhydian play chefs in “Love” and they each have their own views on cooking and relationships. Kenji expressed that he likes girls who cook because they look sexy wearing an apron, but he quickly retracted and said in a serious manner, “If she only has a great body, great looks, and only wants to 'cook fried rice' (have sex) every day, that won’t do!” He feels that being with someone who is easy to talk to is important. Rhydian on the other hand, likes to do the cooking himself and hopes that his girlfriend will praise him for it. In regards to relationships, he keeps an open mind and won’t know what it’ll be like until he meets her.

Kenji expressed it’s his first time being involved in a “guy” relationship in a drama and it feels weird. In contrast, Rhydian feels that it’s fun and relaxing. When the media asked Rhydian between Ethan Ruan and Kenji, which costar he liked better, he said that Kenji is too shy. Kenji immediately responded, “This is even more embarrassing than asking about love rumours. You want to be picked, but then it feels awkward.”

“You Are The Apple Of My Eye” grosses over a hundred million after four days

Giddens Ko’s (or better known as 九把刀, ‘nine knives’) new autobiographical movie “You Are The Apple Of My Eye” (那些年,我們一起追的女孩) has already grossed over a hundred million TWD at the box office in just four days; it has surpassed “Monga” and broke the record by reaching over a hundred million in the shortest time for the past ten years - the movie has now reached a hundred twenty million after five days.

In regards to the movie’s box office success, lead actress Michelle Chen shouted in joy, “It’s like winning the lottery!” The 28 year old actress debuted on the big screen with “Hear Me”, where she played a hearing impaired swimmer. Although she did not win at the Golden Horse for best newcomer, even veteran actress Maggie Cheung praised her acting.

Michelle and her newcomer costar Ke Zhen-Dong celebrated the good news by eating ice cream. Michelle even sat on Ke Zhen-Dong’s lap to pose, acting as a loving couple. Although it's 20 year-old Ke Zhen-Dong’s debut role, he is already getting a taste of fame. However, he expressed feeling awkward when he sees passers-by talk about him. He revealed when they first started shooting the movie, he thought about pursuing Michelle as he thought she was very pretty, “But afterwards I found out that her thoughts are usually one-sided, and she is very bad with directions...probably just too dumb...” Michelle immediately responded, “I never thought about it (dating him) either! It’s all because he has low intelligence! He is like my little brother. I like guys who are more mature.” Interestingly, Ke Zhen-Dong’s dad, who also played his dad in the movie, has just become Michelle’s godfather a few days ago (godfather in Chinese culture is a man whose position is roughly equivalent to a foster father and without religious or legal complications). Thus, instead of sparks of love, the two are more like siblings calling each other names.

Quarreling aside, the two stars recalled their past relationships. Ke Zhen-Dong has been through four relationships and expressed that he is not a romantic guy; due to filming the movie last year, he neglected his girlfriend, thus, they broke up. Michelle broke up with her university boyfriend due to long distance, she expressed, “I cried for a year and nine months. When we just broke up, I lost 4 kg in a week.” Even now, she still keeps the handwritten letters he wrote to her.

Here is a little trivia: Giddens Ko is a famous online writer who also wrote “The Killer Who Never Kills”, which Jam Hsiao stars in the movie. The movie has grossed 45 million TWD at the box office after two weeks.

Because I am very busy at work, sometimes I really need to play games to relieve some stress."

Speaking of taking a break, Wu Chun recalled the MY KINGDOM production. "When waiting for places with actors, we would think of ways to relax a little. Taiwanese idol Jerry Yan, who is currently filming for the upcoming mainland drama My Wonderful Life alongside mainland actress Yedda Chen, recently sustained minor injuries during a fight scene which required a trip to a hospital while on the set of his latest drama. The injury follows a short series of physical hiccups stemming during the filming of Jerry’s latest role including a loss of 15 lbs (7 kg) since filming started, a jaw injury sustained from an accidental punch from co-start Yedda during a scene, and a pulled muscle from physical strain earlier in the filming.

The drama is coincidently directed by famed director Cheng Ming Zhang (Fated to Love You, Prince Turns to Frog), whom previously helmed the ill-fated drama I Have a Fate with Spring that horribly injured Taiwanese idol Selina Jen. The highly popular Taiwanese otaku goddess Amber Ann, famous for her various modeling roles and active television appearances, is forging ahead with her rookie music career with the release of her latest MV for 戀愛應援團 (Love to Help Society), the latest track off of her debut album. The song for Amber’s latest MV is a youthful and energetic song that that produced and choreographed by veteran entertainment industry personnel to help the aspiring model-turned-singer.

Shooting for Amber’s latest MV took place throughout various locations of a school campus in a single day spanning from five in the morning to midnight. As Amber was moving around the campus for the MV shoot, she commented on the nostalgia of being in a school environment by saying, “When I was a child, I used to think these school desks and chairs were so massive and heavy, but I now discovered that they’re so much smaller that I can lie down on top of five of them. I really did grow up.”

The MV’s director picked a dodgeball theme for the MV that pitted guys versus girls in a friendly match as a backdrop for the song’s focus on falling in love. The Taiwanese celebrity remarked that she was afraid of getting hit from the ball due to her memories back during her school days when getting hit was painful, but she felt more at ease during when she found out that the balls used in the shoot were of the softer variety.

Throughout the shooting of the MV, Amber was asked to dress in a variety of revealing clothing such as short shorts to show off her legs. In one scene though where the otaku goddess was asked to wear a bikini top without a supporting pin during a group dance, she expressed not only how she felt awkward in wearing it in a scene alongside many people, but also how she was afraid that the bikini top would slide off during the dancing routine. But the crew was able to convince Amber to go along with the bikini dance scene when a colleague asked for an example of what other celebrity previously did a bikini dance, which one of the dancers responded by saying Lady Gaga. In addition, Amber commented that she felt that the entire crew on set were professional, so she was able to happily dance during the group dance scene and forgot all about feeling awkward.

Aska Yang mistaken for a corpse

After three years in showbiz and eight months of training from veteran musician Jonathan Lee, singer Aska Yang is finally releasing his second album, “Pure”, on the 26th. Universal Music revealed the album cover yesterday; all that can be seen is Aska lying on the beach and his face is not even showing. Not only the fans are dissatisfied with the album cover, even Aska’s management company was displeased, “What is this? He looks like a corpse that floated up to the shore. It must be changed!”

Aska’s new song, “Bearing a Pearl” (懷珠), signifies his talent and persistence in music style. However, his album cover has received many criticisms with the majority requesting it to be changed. Some fans even questioned, “Does Universal Music hate Aska so much?”

As a result, Universal Music held an urgent meeting to decide whether or not to change the cover. If they do, it will cause a delay on the album release date for the 30,000 preordered copies, and cost the company a million dollars to get them reprinted. Aska’s management company expressed their frustration and said they had no idea that the cover would be like this; they believe it deserves all the criticisms it is getting and insists that the cover should be changed for the better.

Many artists have their own clothing stores in Taiwan, and Jiro admitted that competition will be stiff back home, but he stated that he felt suited in his art classes back in high school, and that designing his own clothing line was a dream of his. The Taiwanese idol continued by saying that it was something he always thought about, that he’s fine with working hard to make his dream into a reality, and hoped that he can plan on the specifics like the fittings and the fashion mannequins.

When a reporter asked Jiro whether or not he plans on designing clothes for his girlfriend, to which he responded, “I don’t have a girlfriend now. Back in school, I made a sketch for my girlfriend. If I have the chance, I hope to design a wedding ring for my girlfriend and other items like a bracelet to put around her neck." The reporter quickly followed up by asking, “Will that include lingerie?”, to which Jiro responded with, “I haven’t thought about that, but if she feels that it’s awkward, I won’t learn how to design that.”

Hebe Tien is about to release her second solo album titled, “My Love”. For her latest MV, she not only had to step into the mud and rain, she also had to be washed away by a man-made tidal wave. However, the man-made wave was a little too much to handle, which sent Hebe 10 meters away; it ripped her clothes and shocked a few staff members.

It’s Hebe’s first time filming at the National Theater and Concert Hall, and she is also the first pop star to do so. She wore a long white lace dress and expressed that the song is about going through hardships before meeting your destined lover. She further added that everyone should learn from the subject.

Calvin Chen and Weng Tzymann to host Next TV’s entertainment news show

“Apple Entertainment News” (蘋果娛樂新聞) will be premiering on the 29th; its grand cast of seven hosts went to set their wardrobe styles yesterday which included Calvin Chen, Smile Weng Tzymann, Jing Wong, Yuan Ai-Fei, JR, Cynthia Wang, and Vickie. Calvin Chen arrived early at 12:30pm, but spent two hours fixing his hair. His partner Tzymann waited patiently for him and as soon as he entered the studio, he joked, “I was afraid that my nipples would show, so I had to adjust my boobs.” Then he explained, “Guys care most about their hair.”

As a perfectionist, Calvin gave a lot of suggestions to his hairstylist, and also concentrated a lot on his eye makeup. He closely faced the mirror and carefully applied his double-eyelid tape. Just when he was about done, he decided to redo his hair. Even the female stars can’t stand his pickiness. Calvin defended himself, “It’s because today is the first day so I tried two different styles. I wanted to see which one looked better.”

Tzymann plans to try new roles in showbiz this year and she just signed on to co-host “Apple Entertainment” yesterday. She expressed, “Besides it is something new to try, they’re willing to accommodate me on my schedule, which was the biggest deciding factor.” For the show, Tzymann will be partnering up with Calvin and Jing Wong on different days. The moment she saw Calvin, she said, “It’s quite interesting, the first MV I filmed was Fahrenheit’s!” Calvin described Tzymann, “She was very youthful before, now there is a tint of maturity. Since we’ve worked together before, we already know how we’re like and each other’s personality.”

The seven hosts will all be doing the show in pairs. When asked if they would feel pressured about show ratings, they all answered, “Showbiz has always been ruthless. Anyhow, if we don’t see someone the next time, it just means that he or she was eliminated.”

Daniel Chan shows off his six pack for album photo shoot

Material Queen costar, Daniel Chan, will be releasing his new album, “So Hot”, at the end of the month. He especially went to the Maldives for a photo shoot. He generously showed off his toned abs and pectoral muscles after having worked out for three months. Daniel reasoned confidently, “I heard that it will be the hottest summer in Taiwan this year. Since the Maldives is located right at the equator, the sun is brighter, and whoever wears clothes will surely have a heat stroke.”

On the day of the shoot, the crew also booked a yacht, the Landaa Summer, from the Four Seasons Resort to set out to sea. Daniel laughed, “There was actually nothing blocking the sun, so we had to work quickly to avoid being burnt.”

The photographer not only praised Daniel’s great body, he also commented to Daniel, “Your tanned body and the white sand create great contrast, so there’s no need to add lighting.” However, after working under the sun for six consecutive days, Daniel was starting to feel the strong heat, “I almost got a sunburn. I’ve already used up 20 bottles of sun screen lotion, but since the Maldives is right at the equator, it’s no use no matter how much you put on.”

Daniel's "So Hot" album is now available for preorder at YesAsia!
