Xiao Xiao Bin sells himself to bury Jiro Wang

Xiao Xiao Bin, the most adorable and popular child-star in Taiwan, outshined the adults once again. In the brand new “performance class” segment on Jacky Wu’s latest variety show, Super King (綜藝大國民), Xiao Xiao Bin showed off his acting skills and stole everyone’s spotlight even when he was only acting as a passerby.

In one of the skits, Jiro Wang was supposed to act as a son who had just lost his father, but the role was snatched away by Xiao Xiao Bin. Jiro, who celebrated his birthday on the set that day, was reduced to acting as Xiao Xiao Bin’s father. Xiao Xiao Bin, who did not have enough money to bury his idol father, wore the tag, “賣身葬父” (which means to sell yourself for money to bury your father). Jiro made the most out of his role and lay across the floor like a model on a foldout page, pretending to be Xiao Xiao Bin’s deceased father.

Jacky Wu made fun of Xiao Xiao Bin, “You even dare to take on the role of ‘selling yourself to bury father’? When you go home, (your father) Xiao Bin Bin will definitely give you a good spanking!” Xiao Xiao Bin, realizing the seriousness, replied, “I don’t want to play this role anymore.” But the moment they shouted, “Camera!” Xiao Xiao Bin got into his character right away and his tears flowed non-stop as he mourned for his deceased idol father Jiro.

Wilber Pan Shows Pubic Hair? Sandrine Pinna Doesn't Want to See it

Wilber Pan and Sandrine Pinna are rumored of liking each other after they started to film "Endless Love." Tomorrow's episode would broadcast Wilber's shower scene, trying to push ratings. When filming this shower scene, Wilber purposely pulled the bath towel down to his hips and was suspicious of showing his pubic hair. Sandrine was next to him and she ran away when she saw it. She won't come back to film until Wilber put his clothes on. As for whether she saw pubic hair or abdominal hair, Sandrine got shy and said: "Just something black. I don't want to remember it anymore!"

In addition, Sandrine once promised to walk around Taipei 101 building in swimsuit if ratings broke 7 points. Yesterday when she attended to a Ferragamo event, she joked "already trying on swimwsuits."

Leehom confirms “cooking” is not one of his “18 Martial Arts”

The talented Leehom Wang can write songs, direct movies, impersonate Robert De Niro and play instruments that we can’t even name. But at a recent taping of “University Students”, he admitted, “I once tried to learn to cook for my girlfriend, but that’s not part of the ‘18 Martial Arts’, I have no (cooking) talent at all, (I) made some badly failed pasta.”

Host Matilda Tao asked Leehom if rumors between him and costar Crystal Liu were created to promote their movie Love In Diguise. He looked lost for a moment before answering awkwardly, “uh…I quite admire Crystal Liu, but (we’re) just friends.” The host didn’t let it end there, she asked, “(Do you two) keep in touch every day?” He pretended to take out his cell phone and said, “(Are you) asking about ‘frequency’? No, not that kind of frequency.”

Female students from the cast paid particularly close attention to Leehom's lovelife. They asked him questions like if he would “mind dating people within or outside of showbiz?”, or “pursue a girl or stay passive?” Leehom responded saying he doesn’t exclude people from showbiz and even thinks he is pretty proactive. He then mocked himself, “but it seems like the fact was unproven!”

Matilda Tao asked if his mom has ever mentioned what kind of girl she likes. He said he doesn’t know because “she changes all the time, like broken weather.” It’s a good thing that his brother is married with children, so he doesn’t feel as much pressure and able to focus on his creativity.

Back in 2001, when the Leehom Wang cooking horror show began...

Jay Chou rumored to have lost big bucks at the casinos

A Singapore news source recently reported that Jay Chou lost 2 million SGD (approx. 1.47 million USD) at the Marina Bay Sands Casino. As expected, the story became headline news in Taiwan, followed by more “insider reports” claiming that wasn’t all he had lost. Jay Chou was in Singapore last month to perform 3 shows as part of his concert tour. A source said he in fact visited two different casinos (the other being Sentosa) and lost nearly 100 million NTD (3.13 million USD).

President Chou was estimated to have earned 2.3 billion NTD (72 million USD) over the past 6 years. He is legendary for setting the “Cape $700 million” record (21.9 million USD), and reportedly made 550 million (17 million USD) last year. Two years ago, Jay Chou revealed that he lost NT$ 80,000 at The Venetian Macao when he was there for a concert. He complained that he “loses 9 out of 10 times!”

In addition, Jay Chou was spotted at the Las Vegas Bellagio last December while filming The Green Hornet. He was rumored to have lost 1 million USD, which his manager Yang Jun Rong (楊峻榮) denied and called it non-sense. In a phone interview with Appledaily, Jay Chou clarified about his gambling woes and joked there are finally news that’s bigger than his love life.

In the interview, Jay Chou admitted he has been to the casinos identified in the news sources. However, he criticized the reports for over exaggerating the amount of money he lost.

Jay Chou (J): Ever since completing Curse of the Golden Flower, in which the God of Gamblers played my dad (referring to Chow Yun Fat in his legendary role), I wanted to check if my luck has gotten better. Therefore whenever I perform in places that have a casino, I will go play a little to see if my luck is really that great.

This is something very normal, it’s just that everyone has exaggerated it, and exaggerated the amount of money. I don’t need to respond on this kind of false rumors, but I can honesty tell everyone, I did go there! Now that the news has overshadowed my scandals, I feel very good about it, but don’t let me see the same news after a week. It would make me think that everyone has ran out of news to write about.

Appledaily (A): Some sources said you lost 100 million (NTD) in Singapore casinos, and 1 million USD in Las Vegas last year, do you want to clarify?

J: I don’t need to clarify anything that anyone had said! I don’t care about any of this, I’m only concerned if reporters continue to dwell on it, and what is made out of it afterwards, like adding up the casinos in a list. I’ve been going (to the casinos) since my first album, no one wrote anything about it back then, when it became newsworthy, everyone started to make stories, that’s very unfair to me!

A: Did you go to the casinos when you were filming The Green Hornet in the US last year?

J: Going back and forth (to the US) for three months, I went there whenever I was free on the weekends. I would play the guitar and write songs over the 4-hour drive to the casinos, “Free Tutorial Video” was written on my way there. It felt a lot like a movie, going to a city of crime like Las Vegas to play for 1 to 2 days, calming myself down before going back to work, and relax a bit!

A: (You) always try your luck at the casinos while touring?

J: That’s right! Any normal celebrity would do this, unless (they) don’t want to talk about it. Moreover, there’s not much that I refuse to talk about, and there's nothing to hide.

A: You said the dollar amount was exaggerated, so what is the actual small amount you lost?

J: I don’t need to announce the amount just because of some ridiculous reports.

A: If the amount was minimal, then why are there so many news about (your time at) the casinos?

J: It's nothing strange, if you go there then someone will talk about it. I was born to be the center of gossip.

Angela Chang’s parents were no show at her concert

Angela Chang returned to the Taipei Arena for the first time in 3 years for her “Pandora” world tour. The concert attracted 9000 fans and earned 18 million NTD in ticket sales. All eyes were on whether her parents would attend after she had a very public feud with her mom last year. She openly invited her parents to the concert two months ago, but in the end, they were nowhere to be seen. Her so-called very important male friend “Sky” was present at the show but hid himself among the crowd. He sent her a floral arrangement with the message “An angel with invisible wings stole my heart.”

Linfair Records contacted Angela Chang’s parents numerous times but her mom declined saying that she “didn’t want to take away the attention, and family matters should be resolved in private.” The organizers reserved 6 seats in the VIP area for her family, which her younger brother and sister eventually shared with their friends from Canada.

It was a very different story back in 2006 when the entire Chang family attended her first ever world concert tour in Shanghai. Later in 2007, her mom happily accompanied her at the after party of her first concert at the Taipei Arena. Angela Change previously said she has done everything she could, but she couldn’t predict whether they would come in the end. After the concert, she responded through her company, “Maybe my effort wasn’t enough. It’s a bit of a pity.”

Among the concert attendees was her ex Jason Hsu, who went to the show with his friends Sam Wang, Mickey Huang and Xiao Tian Tian. When asked if he is worried about running into Sky, he said, “I won’t know it's him even if he sits beside me, but if it happens then (I) will politely greet him.”

The concert was an extravagant fashion show for Angela Chang. She descended onto the stage wearing a 5 kg antler head piece looking like a “Pandora bride”. After her veil was lifted, it revealed a diamond studded outfit that increased her cup size from B to D. She sang many fan favorites including “Aurora” and “Invisible Wings”. Weibird Wei and Chen Han Dian were the special guests of the night.

Chen Han-Dian: King of the B-List

Han-Dian and Leehom in Love In Disguise.

The most popular B-Lister, Chen Han-Dian (okay, maybe besides the Ah Ken and Na Dou duo), has been working alongside many superstars recently. Han-Dian, who has reportedly earned seven million (NTD) last year, is probably most known as the goofball on the popular talk show, Kang Xi Lai Le. Besides being a regular on variety shows, Han-Dian has also played a serious antagonist role in the hit movie, Monga, and in Leehom Wang’s latest romance comedy, “Love In Disguise,” he plays Leehom’s buddy.

Just several days ago, Queen of Taiwanese (dialect) music, Jody Chiang, also took notice of Han-Dian’s comedic talent and invited him to star in her latest “Tango Tango” MV. In the MV, he plays a janitor who’s too busy peeking at a tango dance class to learn the moves himself. Although the two did not actually tango together, the MV has been well received by fans.

Even Angela Chang invited Han-Dian to appear as a special guest at her concert yesterday as part of her encore act. The two sang and danced to the hit duet, “Worship Happiness”. Angela complimented, “It’s our first time collaborating. I always think that he’s very funny, but he’s actually not bad at singing either and has quite a unique style in rapping.” Han Dian truthfully admitted that he was very nervous, “I don’t have great breathing capacity. When I was singing and dancing, I was afraid of being out of breath, so I’ve been jogging a lot recently.” To prepare for the concert, he even went to ask Leehom for some advice in singing, “He said regardless if it's learning an instrument or singing, we have to first practice it at a slower tempo.”

Han-Dian showed off his rapping and singing skills at Angela Chang's latest concert.

Han-Dian, who has already worked with many superstars, reveals that he hopes to have the opportunity to work with Harlem Yu in the future, “He is my idol. Even if I can only act as an extra in the MV, I’m willing to do it.”

Lin You-Wei becomes Will Pan's rival in "Endless Love"

A few days ago, Lin You-Wei went to a photo shoot for the upcoming idol drama, “Endless Love”. For the photo shoot, he wore a tight knitted cardigan. The media immediately noticed that his pectoral muscles seem to have gotten larger, but he explained that it’s only because he has gained some weight, so there's more fat. He revealed that he doesn’t spend money to go to the gym, but rather he usually do push-ups at home and goes to play basketball at least twice a week. He even has his own basketball team, and often plays against Mark Chao and Jerry Yan.

Lin You-Wei has always been known as a nice guy since he debuted in showbiz. But it looks like he has gotten bored of always being the good guy as he has been picking a lot of villain-type roles in his recent dramas. It has been long since he has taken up an idol drama, and in the soon-to-be aired “Endless Love”, Lin You-Wei will play a playboy who grew up with the female lead, which is played by Sandrine Pinna. Although she has feelings for him, he only takes her as his little sister...but until she falls in love with Will Pan.

Lin You-Wei was in the former boy group, WEWE, with Lee Wei way back in 2001. The two made a wise decision and furthered their careers in acting instead...

Controversy over Yao Yao's remake of Kara's "Honey"

Yao Yao’s first plug “Honey” of her upcoming debut album is a remake of the same titled song by the popular five member Korean pop group, Kara. The single has stirred up many debates among the fans. As previously reported, Yao Yao specially invited big names like Jay Chou, Ella, and Gary Cao to collaborate on her album, yet she decided to promote a remake song instead. Upon the release of the single, an endless verbal war has started among netizens. Kpop fans criticize that the efforts from Jay and others have gone to waste and that Yao Yao’s version can’t compare to Kara’s, commenting that it has lost its original flavor. On the other hand, Yao Yao fans argue that Kara still hasn’t been officially promoted in Taiwan, so Yao Yao’s remake is simply bringing more exposure to Kara, helping Kara increase their popularity.

Yao Yao’s record label, Seed Music, explains that upon hearing “Honey”, they felt that the song matched Yao Yao very well, so they immediately bought the rights to it. Regardless of the controversy, Yao Yao is also slowly transcending from being purely an Otaku-Goddess to a pop idol, gaining young and working-class fans.

In a recent interview with host Matilda Tao, Vic expressed his thoughts on men needing to make more money than women, “If a man makes less money than the woman, he will not have any say on anything.” In the end, the media took his explanation as a reason for his breakup with Barbie Hsu. A little flustered, Vic advised everyone to watch the interview in full to understand. But in regards to earning money, Vic emphasized, “Isn’t a man’s career important?... Unless he’s living off of the woman. If I get married and build a family in the future, I hope that I can be responsible for my family.” He added that he feels his career achievement is not up to standards yet. He hopes that he will get there when he’s 40. When asked if he explained this to Barbie, he commented, “There’s no need to care so much about these types of reports.”

Peter Pan challenges Jolin with his "Handsome Man Trap"

Most men are most afraid of hearing others calling them “soft”, but Peter Pan is quite proud of his “softness” (flexibility). Several days ago, he appeared on Hit FM radio as a substitute DJ. In the studio, he started practicing Jolin’s latest “Voguing” dance from the “Honey Trap” MV. He mastered the skill of interlocking his arms behind his back and staff members made fun that he can now film his very own, “Handsome Man Trap”.

The One Million Star season 1 third place finisher has long been known as being “dance-challenged.” A while ago, he performed as a special guest at fellow Million Star contestant (and winner) Yoga Lin’s concert, along with Judy Chou and Stanly Hsu. The four of them each danced and sang a classic hit of HK pop’s “4 Heavenly Kings”. Peter was given Leon Lai’s techno dance song, “看上她” (roughly translates to Interested In Her), which he performed reluctantly and even started having a phobia for dancing afterwards.

However, it didn’t stop Peter from trying hard to rid himself from being called “dance-challenged.” Just recently, at his personal concert “窺‧愛情” (Spy, Love) in July, he challenged Yuki Hsu’s dance classic,” 妙妙妙” (Miao Miao Miao). He explained that he chose the song because he has been a super fan of Yuki’s since high school. Despite being not gifted in dancing, he specially invited Judy to spend a week teaching him how to dance to the song.

Now that Peter has mastered the art of dancing, perhaps we’ll get to hear more dance songs coming from him.

Wedding Bells to ring for Selina next April?

Selina’s dad “Ren Ba (任爸)” celebrated his 60th birthday with a dinner party at the Taipei 101 yesterday. He was joined by his wife, all three members of S.H.E, as well as Selina’s boyfriend Richard Chang and his mom for the celebration. Apparently, it was the first time that the couple’s parents have met, and they were said to be deciding on a wedding date for next year.

After dinner ended around 11 pm, Selina and her boyfriend were asked by reporters on what they bought for present. She revealed that he gave Ren Ba a case of wine, while she herself gave dad a blank check. Reporters quickly reminded Ren Ba to fill in 200 million (NTD) for the amount. Selina was shocked upon hearing the suggestion and responded, “(Your) daughter is still earning (a living)!” Hebe and Ella gave Ren Ba golf clothes, shoes and hats signed by British Open winner Yani Tseng.

Ren Ba looked a little tipsy as he left but he still gave his future son-in-law high marks. When asked if he wants any grandchildren, Ren Ba gave an interesting answer, “I had Selina under reasonable and legitimate circumstances”, implying that he won’t allow premarital pregnancy. Ren Ba was said to be especially emotional during the night and even pulled Richard Chang aside for some “men’s talk”.

After Richard Chang’s famous "wife" declaration at the S.H.E concert in May, rumors of marriage started to circulate a month later. Now that the couple's parents had met up to discuss the wedding seriously, they were said to be picking a date somewhere in April or May of next year. Interestingly, Ren Ba and his wife celebrate their wedding anniversary on April 2nd, so it might be possible for Selina and her boyfriend to wed on the same day as well.

Their latest stop brought them to Malaysia, in which they shared a very special date with Albino Burmese Pythons. The guys were frightened by these exotic creatures when their manager asked them to cozy up for some photos. But for the sake of publicity, they realized their inner manhood and wrapped those babies around their necks like they’re man’s best friend. The two moved on to spend some quality time with a big lizard afterward.

In addition to the python adventure, AK also participated in indoor skydiving training at a vertical wind tunnel. They successfully took flight and were each awarded a certificate. Both members earned high praises from their instructor.

Wilber Pan Gets Pranked On His 30th Birthday

Wilber Pan is busy filming CTS's new idol drama "Endless Love." In order to give him a memorable 30th birthday (August 6) surprise, the crew decided to play a prank on him. They purposely arranged him to stand in front of Taipei Arena and performed a crying scene for 40 minutes. In the end when he knew all the scenes just filmed were fake, he roared several times, even Sandrine Pinna said with sympathy: "Poor you!"

Wilber won't really celebrate his birthday since 14 years old. Almost every year he has to spend his birthday at work. He turned 30 today and the crew wants him to have a memorable birthday experience. They teamed up with director and assistant director to play a prank on the birthday boy. Wearing a suit, Wilber had to film a crying scene on a crowded street. He was very into the character that he cried emotionally, even his shoulders were shaking. But when the director said: "Dear! Look in front of you! Happy birthday!" Then Wilber finally realized he got pranked. Female lead of "Endless Love" Sandrine Pinna gave him a big hug immediately. The crew even arranged a hot bikini girl to dance closely with him. However, Wilber was very shy that he didn't dared to take off his jacket and only laughed.

In fact, Wilber thought of he might be pranked, but in order to perform well for this crying scene, he didn't think too much. First time standing in front of the Taipei Arena to film crying scene, scenes of his concert at Taipei Arena last year popped up. During interviews, Wilber sobbed several times and he said: "I hope there would be more happy things. After 30, as for those hateful things, hope can still continue to do it." At this stage, he thinks rumors and dating are not the most important: "Hope to spend more time at work, and this is the most important thing."

Leehom pockets one million USD to endorse Hyundai

The Music Man is not only busy finishing his upcoming album, but has also been taking up many endorsements. Several days ago, Leehom Wang became the latest spokesperson for Hyundai in Mainland china. He’s reportedly being paid in the same price range as international stars, pocketing one million USD. In the commercial, Leehom rids himself from his usual freestyle socks-and-sandals music man image, and puts on a suit, shirt, and tie as a mature handsome man.

Leehom used to drive a car in the states, but after he returned to Taiwan, he rarely drives because of traffic and because his management company also provides his rides. Interestingly, despite he’s earning tens of millions in endorsements, he is still driving a ten year old used car that he bought for his birthday last year. Although Hyundai provided him with a car, it can only be driven in China.

Leehom sure knows how to make use of his endorsements. His new songs and movie are used to accompany different commercials. For example, “Firewood, Rice, Oil, Salt, Soy Sauce, Vinegar, Tea” is used with a cell phone commercial. Thus, his album is already receiving quite a bit of promotion before it is even released. In late September, Leehom will be holding concerts at Macao and Shanghai. As for when he will hold a concert in Taiwan, he said, “It is currently in discussion. Hopefully it will either be end of this year or beginning of next year.”

Leehom gives thumbs up to his ten year old used car.

Eddie Peng and Danson Tang believe that Joe Cheng is the worst dancer

Yesterday, Danson Tang and Eddie Peng appeared as judges for the Metro Street Dance Competition's preliminary rounds. They performed a dance themselves, but expressed honestly that they felt great pressure dancing in front of professional dancers – the contestants and other judges. The moment they stepped onto the stage, sweat ran down their faces. They joked, “We were washing our faces.” The media couldn’t help but ask who has the best potential to become the next “dance king”. The two teased, “It’s too hard to tell which of us is better, but we know that the worst dancer is definitely Joe Cheng!”

As first time judges, they leave the tough parts for other professional judges to handle. Danson expressed that he was there to judge each dance crew’s image, while Eddie focused on overall creativity. The prize money for first place winner is $480,000 (NT) for this competition, which attracted over 200 dance crews to participate.

When asked how the contestants can relieve their stress, Danson advised that they can jump into a pool. He emphasized that swimming can relieve stress and help you relax. Eddie on the other hand, said that he enjoys reading novels at home or going to the movies to relieve his stress.

In October, Eddie and Danson will be joining fellow label-mates Ariel Lin, A-Lin, and Joe Cheng to perform at Japan’s Asia Music Summit.

Leehom Wang Bans Release of Kissing Photos with Crystal Liu

Leehom Wang’s first directorial debut, Love in Disguise "恋爱通告" will be released on August 13, 2010. In the film, Leehom will portray a superstar who disguises himself as a student in a music conservatory school while pursuing love interest, Crystal Liu Yifei. Leehom has secretly guarded footage of his kissing scene with Crystal and banned the photos from media circulation.

Placing great importance and involved heavily with all aspects of Love in Disguise’s production, Leehom worked on the script personally and insisted that the leading actress be Crystal Liu. The film allegedly cost $600 million (NT) to produce.

Allegedly, Leehom and Crystal were heavily engaged in their “romance” outside of filming. Leehom and Crystal often had dinner dates together and netizens noticed the pair even wore matching lovers’ bracelets. After filming a kissing scene with Crystal, Leehom immediately took the film footage away, banning the public release of the kissing photos. Suspicion arose as to whether Leehom was using the film to privately chase after Crystal, as evidenced by his overly protective gesture of their “relationship.”
